After all these years, the Conqueror is still pretty much underperforming. Mobility wise it’s good, but the main issue is the armament.
The 120mm is straight up awful. APDS barely does any damage. Shatterings, unexplainable failures to penetrate, and the worst of all, horrible post-pen damage. I get this is an issue of APDS in most tanks (and the British suffer from this the most), but I don’t feel that with, say, the Strv 101. It genuinely feels like the caliber is an empty carcass that does nothing but hinder gun performance with anything above 105mm.
I get the reload time, but it would be better if my rounds did something between reloads, don’t you think? I genuinely can’t believe a gun designed to counter the IS-3 does bollocks against, say, a T-44. Woudln’t it have enough power to tear the turret apart? But all I get are ring hits, a couple crew members dead, or breech damage. It’s quite hard to destroy a vehicle with a single shot.
I refuse to mention HESH, because I think everybody in this community knows how much rubbish of a round it is in game. It only works against VERY soft targets.
TL;DR: The Conqueror is rubbish and they’ve done nothing to approach it. Just keep adding more modern stuff I guess.
