somewhat agreed, if there was a way to code the shell to be effected 70 or 80% (or whatever the actual percentage is) by one layer and the rest by second layer (regardless of the physical location of the layer) then it would be realistic.
🤔 shouldn’t the second layer of era have better protection than the first layer? Since the first layer will slow down and deform/unstabilize the dart which should make the second layer more effective 🤔
No, at least not in the case of Duplet. As it was mentioned gazillion times, the second layer is covered by a (much) thicker plate than that of the first layer, and since ERA uses hollow-charge effect to cut the round (whose body is still in the plate at the time of penetration/detonation), more power will be released in the plate in order to reach the round.
And be it 30mm or 50mm HHRHA or soft steel, it will remain to be a greater obstacle than 15mm cover of the first layer. The other thing is how much space there is for the “air pocket” to let HEAT charges affect the round, but likely not enough to compensate for the volume of the steel layer in any way.
