The BM Oplot-T Is... Concerning (And Now The Oplot-M)

Literally the only source naming it Monolith is T-14 Wiki page, every other source , news coverage etc., including dedicated ERA Wiki page calls it Malachite.

I forget what Source RedEffect used but it wasn’t Wiki.

Any chance of this getting into the game?

Then there would be a lot of whining about China and Japan getting a “more capable” T-series style tank. Especially if the vertical drives on vehicles like the T-72B3 & T-80BVM get nerfed. Overall, idk but I’ll say a 20% chance if not lower.

Well it seems like the oplot isnt really worth my time from the sounds of all of this which i just spent the last hour reading… Shame really, ill still grind it as it looks amazing but knowing that autocannon fire will be wrenching my era away in seconds while i have to slam multiple 76mm rounds from my otomatic to even take one bag away from a t80bvm’s side is not great…

What are the devs opinions on the missing 50mm plate as that seems like the most vital fix needed rn?

It is fine really, firepower is good enough, utility is among the best (ESS, Smokes, HE), armour despite underperforming still handles alot of APFDS(Russian, British, French, Chinese) and autocannons, turret is inpenetrable in the cheeks, good mobility, small siluette. Just yesterday got 3 nukes(dropped only 1 tho). You just need to have aim discipline to overcome bad vertical gan handling, and just use other TT MBTs on hilly maps.

We don’t know anything on Devs opinion about Oplot at all. According to @Ralin, as it stands right now, if they to give 50mm HHRA instead of 30mm structureal steel, they will take away ERA performance to keep overall protection figure the same (which I still would prefer as it would increase passive protection). And the best we can hope is increase of protection in the hull from 620 to 700 at 68° LOS. But considering gaijin abandons everything that was already released untouched for 2-5 years, we will basically never see changes as this game probably will die faster.

You’re right; I already said that the problem isn’t the lack of a plate, but rather the assessment of the module’s overall resistance.

True, but I mean, we have this photo, I know gaijin rules about sources, but in some cases (like this one) it wouldn’t be much of stretch to lower standart and just accept the existance of 50mm combined plates. We probably won’t see unclassified blueprints for the next 20-30 years. Gaijin themselves do basically 90% of sourceless guess work on all modern vehicles they add, let alone everything about planes.

The problem is that in the diagram from the album, the plate is shown as a single piece, just as in some of the photos. Here, however, there are several plates. It’s unclear what they’re made of.

And overall, installing a 50-mm plate in front of the XSCHKV element raises questions, because it completely negates its function, since most of the charges will cut through a large volume of steel.

But it wouldn’t completely negate it? so is it more a question of how much rather than if it does or not.

Adding a plate is unlikely to change the resistance; to definitively claim an improvement in resistance, data on the penetration depth of the rear plate is needed.

However, the presence of a plate in general may increase the chances of a reevaluation.

But for the plate to be reconsidered, specific sources regarding its thickness and material must be provided. An illustration album, excerpts of which have been published, might be suitable here (if it is not classified).

Based on the 30mm structural steel plate, according to the formula and armor modifiers from the WT Wiki, we get the following results:

  1. (15 * 1,1 / cos68)+(36 * 0,05 / cos68)+(30 * 0,45 / cos68)+(36 * 0,05 / cos68)+(60 * 1,1 / cos68)+(17)+(50 * 1,1 / cos68) = 429.699mm (factoring in minimal air gaps);
  2. (15 * 1,1 / cos68)+(30 * 0,45 / cos68)+(60 * 1,1 / cos68)+(17)+(50 * 1,1 / cos68) = 420.089mm (completely ignoring air gaps).

And this already doesn’t match the in-game ±400mm UFP values.

Therefore, I assume that when a shell hits the area between the ERA and the bulkhead, this 30mm structural steel plate is simply not considered. Only the 15mm ERA cover, air, and 340mm “main” armor are counted:

  1. (15 * 1,1 / cos68)+(36 * 0,05 / cos68)+(30 * 0,05 / cos68)+(36 * 0,05 / cos68)+(60 * 1,1 / cos68)+(17)+(50 * 1,1 / cos68) = 397.666mm (factoring in minimal air gaps and replacing the 30mm structural steel with air).

With this specific calculation, everything perfectly aligns with what we actually get in the game.

50mm HHRA (modern)

A similar calculation for the 50mm HHRA (modern) plate:

  1. (15 * 1.1 / cos68)+(36 * 0.05 / cos68)+(50 * 1.1 / cos68)+(36 * 0.05 / cos68)+(60 * 1.1 / cos68)+(17)+(50 * 1.1 / cos68) = 540.482mm (factoring in minimal air gaps);
  2. (15 * 1.1 / cos68)+(50 * 1.1 / cos68)+(60 * 1.1 / cos68)+(17)+(50 * 1.1 / cos68) = 530.872mm (completely ignoring air gaps).
