The Black Prince's BR

Everything was obsolete as soon as A41 rolled out of the factory it was built in at Woolwich Arsenal in 1944. when I say everything was I mean it

That NA thing is a beast, the one with the Sherman gun.Had some right laughs in that thing.4.3 it’s a killer in built up areas

if its a lottery it feels like im the only guy in the raffle, I’ve played a lot of battles with 17pdr APDS and it feels bloody good

Suppose 41 is also an example of you lot working out how to do things. But then you lot went and built the chieftain, so who knows what was going on with the British engineering teams. Chieftain had some good bits but also some really really not good bits, more close to the issues cropping up with designs prior to cent.

i will not take the chieftain slander. the L60 engine was the only bad thing and that’s because it was British Leyland built. Rolls Royce got hold of the engine and made it as reliable as everyone else.
chieftain had everything the Americans had but with a better gun

To be fair, being better doesn’t mean shit if you’re can’t reach where you’re better at. Chieftain had some good stuff, but being so awfully sluggish really screwed it.

Keep in mind, I do like the Chieftain. But it really was let down in a way that kinda brings down the system.

Cost and bullshit is what cost the Brits in military tech.Getting a contract is not about how good the kit is it’s about who went to Eton with who and whether you played Rugby for Ox-bridge

Oddly enough it was the same nepotism that stopped the Germans getting a nice T34 copy and taking the Panther.Even as the Russians were pounding on the door greed and the old school tie was making decisions for the Nazi’s.

I saw ajax in the flesh and it looks promising, I love warrior and have even driven in one so if its even a slight improvement over that it will be a success despite the idiots in parliament wasting time

They used to say that best you could hope for with the Chieftain was that when it broke down and it would, that it conked out in a favourable firing position.
Even the multi fuel was semi bullshit. It took days to convert it from one fuel to another.
Leyland engine was a duffer.More cost cutting.Hoping good crew will take up the slack as usual.

I am unfortunately not British (Still commonwealth), so I did not get to see Ajax being shown off. But it looks like a neat little IFV, though would have been better to just upgrade the warrior to my mind. Warrior was a snazzy little machine.

Mainly what I was getting at. Was a great tank, until you had to get it somewhere.

Best tank on the planet until you had to use it.

Ajax is here to protect us all in the Commonwealth. Warrior wouldn’t be up to it in 20 years even with the Lockheed turret that was designed for it. a replacement was necessary

Too big and with zero stowage space from what I have heard.Huge development problems. Cant see Labour going for it.Imagine that soon we will build nothing and buy everything from the US and see the British MPs shares in Black rock soar even higher.

I was reading about this the other day and what ex sqauddies had to say about it .https://www.arrse.co.uk/community/threads/ajax-the-‘not-the-cr2-upgrade’-thread.286942/page-598

i cant see the least voted for government in our countries history doing anything good mate.

I grew up with squaddies and they are resistant to change and upgrades quite often.

I agree but none of our Governments have protected our inventive industries.

We are simply losing the skills.I doubt anybody knows how to mine, produce steel or engineer half the stuff we need.We have no electricians or carpenters.Nobody wants to take an apprenticeship any more in trades. They all want to doss at uni doing media studies or lounge on the dole.

We will have a UK line up of pure copy paste in this game in five years. The UK will make nothing. We will buy it all.

Welcome to American influence. Australia already buys most our rubbish from the US in spite of the fact we would be better served by other suppliers. Same will happen to the UK, regardless the government.

Arguably even challenger would serve us better than what we’ve got on the armour front. Still, Abrams is cheap and half the time you’re paid to take them.

with certain phenomena which isnt appropriate to a war thunder forum as its nothing to do with the game (hint: it started with Tony Blair), there isn’t going to be anyone to even buy American because there wont be the money or country left.

British industry died long ago, where I live did in the 60s when unions got too powerful, whats left is owned by Chinese and indian investors now. doesn’t matter if the skill is being lost as it already was independantly lost

Australia has the potential to do it on its own too, shame
