No, its not. It suffers at 6.0
The only thing it has going for it is APDS and it doesnt justify the 6.0 br
Swedes got a great apds at 1.0 which could easily be much higher and that I actually used at 10.0 and killed quite a few vehicles
Black prince is just too slow while also being very vulnerable
After nearly 1900 battles over many years in this vehicle I dare to say it’s fine where it is now…
actual skill issue. 17pdr APDS is pretty damn good if you’re a good shot, its not a lazy cheap kill like APHE
Might I suggest moving this to the machinery of war section? So it doesn’t get locked for being in the wrong section
its iffy alot of the time these days, I can’t tell you how damn ANNOYING it is to fail to pen a T25 or Jumbo at point blank range only for them to punch right through the Mantlet and take your breach.
I use the Centurion mk2 as my main tank until 7.7 I know 17pdr APDS has some problems but it is nowhere near as bad as you guys say it is.
The black prince is really just a Churchill with a thickened comet turret so you need to play it a bit less like a bullet sponge than the previous churchies, war thunder isn’t favourable to heavy tanks for the same reasons why the fell out of fashion in real life after all
It’s 6BR for a reason
aka it takes far, far more skill to use and is far more prone to random episodes of low postpen. Even perfectly aimed shots will often take 2-3 hits to kill. Trying to argue that apds is even remotely comparable to APHE is laughable.
I don’t need tips.
Ive played hundreds of battles in my BP, got 20 kill games in the thing, But it still is struggling, its too slow, the accuracy at range is just completely inadequate.
The armor not being modeled as the Proper Surfaced Hardened battleship grade steel it should be alone makes it struggle, the thing tanked MK8 shot to the face at Point blank during IRL testing.
All it needs is just a LITTLE help, Either bending the rules on the Paper tanks thing, and giving it the Meteor engine and Centurion Transmission that they planned to mount in it, OR Moving it down a bit.
Gaijin has stated before they don’t plan on fixing the armor to be the proper Surfaced Hardened steel that the British pioneered and made the Churchills IMMUNE to Tigers in the Desert, and carried on through the war. So it needs SOMETHING to help it out.
Oh that’s an era issue ,you aren’t allowed to say that : )
That’s a new one.
I was referring to how APHE overperforms hencewhy so many people were resistant to the vote to even test a change. and a vehicle needing an ounce of skill isn’t a bad thing, the average britain main is a far better player than soviet, german and American mains from it. and a two shot kill isn’t bad either, you disabled them so you then confirm it just like how its actually done
I love the thing, i really do. i have my own custom Camo and decal layout for it i wear in EVERY battle, and even wrote a Alt history for the thing. Its the entire reason i STARTED playing Warthunder, seeing Baronvongame’s original video on the Black Prince.
BUT It still has problems, it is outmatched alot of the time, Especially due to how poorly Cast armor performs in game as well.
I vote this! Assuming it’ll give much greater speed and maneuverability
In the deserts of Africa the first 2 Tigers to arrive there, were knocked out by a Platoon of Churchill MK3’s at RANGE, and suffered no losses, the Tigers shells to quote the Crews them selves “Just Bounced right off”
This happened about a week or so before the more Famous Tiger 131 Incident, which was ALSO knocked out by a Churchill’s 6 pounder.
Can you provide were you read this please? I’m genuinely curious, and just want to read up about it. :)
‘needing skill’ is nearly universally a sign of underperformance. Across ALL games. There is a reason meta is meta. Not just because its easy, but also because it performs well even in poor cases.
The average brit main is better because they had to play through AWFUL vehicles for ages. Until 8.0 they don’t have a single BR where they could be considered to be the best performing nation. And even at 8.0 sweeden gets centurions and better supporting vehicles.
Two shot kill doesn’t necessarily mean a disabling first shot. You shoot the hull and have the gunner survive, only to be shot back and killed. You shoot the turret only for him to reverse over the hill hes behind, repair, then gen another shot to kill you later. You take a side shot under the turret only for the round to produce near zero postpen and only color most of the turret crew.
Ill have to find it, I believe LindyBeige did a video about it a few years ago.
Yes very short range and with a lot of luck. Seriously stop coming across as a Churchill salesman. You are making up history that never happened. The Churchill was primarily an Infantry tank not a tank destroyer. That alone places the Churchill in territory a Tiger does not want to be in.There were very few in Tigers in Europe and 131 in Tunisia was very close range and very lucky. If the Churchy was equal to anything the Germans had it was the Panzer IV and British soldiers were very thankful of that.
The UK defeated Germany’s heavy armour mostly with Heavy bombing and Artillery. We simply did not have the men to go in gung ho against heavily armed Germans. The UK also tried hard to avoid contact with Tigers and other heavy German tanks whenever possible so they were certainly worried about them.
The Churchill was mostly used for moving slowly with infantry hence why it was useful at Stalingrad ,however it did not do well in snow and ice. Infantry protect the tank as much as the tank protects the infantry.
It’s pretty basic WW2 history .The Churchill being on par with the Tiger is pretty basic fantasy.
Okay, ty
