Both offensively and defensively too. I’ve found it to be quite good in air RB if no Aim-9Bs are around. It’s not super slow, and it’s very well defended+it can actually kill things with offensive guns. The Bucc S.1 and Vautours need an airspawn to be somewhat good. The Interceptor Vautour at 8.3 has one, and no one complains about it being too good, so why can’t the actual bomber variants at 9.0 get one.
I still have not seen a single reason for the B-66 to not get an airspawn, or atleast a BR reduction.
Its part of the issue of all bombers, including the Bucc and Canberras being free food for Air RB. Not fast enough to outrun anyone, no missile defence, no serious defensive weaponry, and of course bombers are made of tissue paper.
The B-66 feels like a slightly faster IL-28. Arguably better guns, but at a BR where it sees even more missiles, and much better missiles that completely invalidate its defensive guns, which are useful at 1km at best. For petes sake, it can see 9Ds and Js in not even a full uptier.
I think bombers are only truly balanced up til around 2.0 or maybe 3.0. They have good enough guns to defend, have an altitude advantage, but the right player and plane can still deal with them. Past that, they start massively falling behind on their speed, altitude, and sometimes firepower.
, B66 will be bad if its tailgun isn’t modeled properly, it simply cannot turn well enough, and is to slow to be hard to intercept, you seem to be operating under the assumption its an american vautour, when its not, its got a wingspan that 5 meters longer than the vautour, its just under 20k kilos heavier at max takeoff weight, its 5 meters longer, its 3 meters taller, and while the buccaneer is closer in some aspects, its still falls way short in others, including the wingspan, the B66 is BIG and thats really going to hamper its performance if it doesnt get its primary means of defense, both are also faster than the B66

Dedicated supersonic interceptors like F-104, Lightning or MiG-21F can easly snatch the neck of Vautour at nearly no cost.
Vautour (bomber variants) are, and the B-66 will ‘DOA’ unless
Plan A: send them down to rank 5 and grant air spawn.
Plan B: let them be 8.7BR instead of 9.0, since it can contribute nearly nothing in ARB.
(If Yak-28B in current 9.0BR gets back to 9.3BR with extra decompression, it may remain 9.0BR, but we both know Gaijin will never gonna do it.)
I think the tail gunner of B-66 will be worthless dead weight when they face F3H-2’s AIM-7C or MiG-21S variant’s R-3R, or even Mirage IIIC’s R-530/F-4C’s AIM-7D
The issue is all 8.7 bombers are worse than them. All 8.3s are worse than 8.7s. All 8.0s are worse than 8.3s and that list continues all the way down to 1.0.
Yak-28 was entirely decompressed at 9.3 but people just aren’t flying bombers in a manner that prevents tails having enemies at least 30% of the time, let alone over 60% of the time I’m able to avoid such intercepts.
Like I’ve never felt threatened by F-104 even in my Vautours, just because I know they have a rudder weakness and 9Bs.
F-100s are a threat however.
I made a bug report for missing chaff pods, and it got accepted. B-66B did not get its chaff pods during the 2nd dev server. Hopefully, it will get the chaff pods on patch day.
This thing would’ve had a viable place if added years ago. Naturally Gaijin sits on their arse waiting to add it after it’s in a position to be DoA as soon as it drops.

No thanks. Making it the RB-66C would mean losing its bombing equipment in exchange for electronic components, which would make it irrelevant in the game. I don’t agree with that.
Chaff pods are compatible with the wing pylons on the aircraft regardless of variant, including the B-66B, as confirmed in the flight manual.
