For this post ill be using the USS Maryland for example.
For starters, the ammo in the turret is “100” in the xray, but as you can see there is 6 locations, each with 8 shells, thats 48.

Secondly, even taking the bare minimum of 72 shells gives you all 760 charges in the ship. But furthermore, you will have the “400” (192) shells in the turret still.
Taking a number below 760 will give you all 760 shells and charges.
Also, apparently both of these equal “90” shells.

This makes no sense at all.

Forgot to add but theres quite a few other ships like this.
Wait til you see a certain Soviet ship with some rather undersized ammo racks (among other things)
Ship ammo stowage makes zero sense right now and absolutely needs work.
Many ships are just floating powder kegs because all of their ammo is one block that is the same size always, while some are basically immune to ammo explosions because reasons. The least the devs could do is start making it so a full magazine of shells or charges is divided into individual racks like on tanks used to be. (Back in the day you wouldn’t have individual tank rounds disappear when you load less/shoot lots of ammo they would disappear in blocks/racks)
Also updating the fire resistance of shell rooms is a totally necessary update. Naval two piece ammo shells are fairly insensitive with their very thick walled projectiles and well sealed explosive cavities. Charges will chain detonate and burn readily, but the projectiles themselves are basically inert until fired. Very different to shells in the game that will instantly explode if a fire is in the vicinity.

I’ll do you one better, go look at a certain Japanese destroyer that can take a battles worth of ammunition into a match but the entire magazines under all turrets are completely empty.
Ships magazines across the board need a full QoL update that fixes all the inconsistencies found in this game, there’s ships that explode on a sneeze an others that won’t ever sink to magazine detonations.
Only a few ships have the ability to carry a limited amount & receive small magazines while others remain completely full. This isn’t just main cannon ammunition but secondaries & tertiary batteries as well for the ammunition costs.
The devs need to proper implement better shell rooms & powder charge magazines as currently it just isn’t right on anything.
People need to stop with this; the visual model is incorrect and a hold over from the Kronshtadts.
The actual hitbox is what you’d expect for 40.6cm magazines.
