The AIM-4/26 Falcon - History, Design, Performance & Discussion

CAS pilots are usually sub-par to say the least. I usually have no problem dodging stingers kinetically, especially the E’s. All it takes is one good jink right as the missile is about to hit and because of the lack of proxy fuse it’ll just fly right by.

the reason stingers are so easy to dodge isnt the lack of proxy, its the 13gs.

i dont see how this will be an issue, aim4 should feel like a better aim9d. worse terminal perfomance but better in general. the 27gs + lack of fuze should feel still a bit better than 18 gs, at low altitude it will be worse ofc.

You get an M61, what else could you need?

m61 on a delta wing i wanna see that

its both. back when the Gepard 1A2 was bugged and coundent use the K’s i missed a lot of shots b/c ppl would just dodge last second and the missile would miss.

Don’t take them then, this is a non-issue.

you’re forgetting that aim-4 has like 50% of the deltav lol

Kinda impressive of how it has less delta v than a damn red top

I mean, if your opponent is a sentient being, they can be dodged last second because no proxy fuses. These missiles will work best against slow enemies (stalled out or just fresh out of a turn fight that bled their speed) or head-ons at altitude (rarely happens but I guess it can be great to try and slap some unawares astronauts) or something like an F-104 going in a straight line (because he can’t turn, fun fact, the F-106 will likely keep up with an F-104 meaning the Aim-4G will hit.)
Like the missiles are usable, I see people die to Aim-9Bs and R3Rs all the damn time and those missiles can’t even turn.

AIM-4 is R-60 sized and carries both older (much larger) electronics and a larger warhead than R-60. I’d say it’s more telling that the Red Top has such poor dV when it’s sparrow sized but can barely outrun a sidewinder.

aim4 has half the range of aim9B let alone 9D

aim4 red pill

AIM-9B can hit from as far as 1500 meters initial target distance while AIM-4G can only hit from 700 or less

AIM-9D can hit from as far as 2400m so it has 3.4x longer range than AIM-4G

bonus speed comparison:

if you always launch your missiles at mach 2.3 and 40k ft alt then sure otherwise it’s 15G at sea level

Forgot to say close range mb

That doesnt sound quite right. I wouldnt go using the statshark when the missile isnt even done yet

it has the worst delta v of any plane launched ir air to air missile, there’s really no hope for it

Relative short range doesnt change its a maneuverable missile at low br on an hms platform.

And @Pvt_Wade the maneuverability of the falcon varies from source to source i wager the 27g number is a average i find it unlikely that the aim4 is going to be pulling much less on the deck.

it’s 15 gs not 27gs no? at least at sea level

Last i checked(early today) it was still 27gs.

Missile spreadsheet still puts it at 27maximum gload

No one knows it in game sea level performance as we cant test drive it and look in sensor view in a custom
