And there in lies the problem.

its the only one that makes actual sense. they did not make a 5" longer “enhanced rocket motor” for it to just be better for maintenance. it specifically talks about “an all-boost design that delivers a significant increase in performance as compared to the baseline production motor”, why would they talk about that part of the motor’s design if they were talking about a completely different part of the performance?

It could be considered significant if all aspects of the motor have improved. Not only the amount of dV it can impart but all aspects including maintenance and storage etc.

My whole point is its uncertain language. Also as far as implementation its a non starter.

I mean we are simply approaching an era of equipment that just has too much classified information still, obviously the manufacturer is not gonna provide specific areas of improvements on documents that rivals can easily search on the internet. Most decisions at this point have to be made through the lens of balance rather than historical accuracy.

Wasn’t it the Aim-120D that hit the 200km shot that almost outranged the Phoenix? Certainly that’s an increase in range, no?

There was a second source change to revise the motors formula produced by NAMMO vs ATK so there were changes made to the "5+"mid production due to issues with motors on the C-7’s being delivered to the Finish not being up to spec.

Also some indications that a future 7" dia. motor was planned, which may have evolved, or otherwise have been subsumed into the JATM

"MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ – Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK) has been awarded a research and development contract for the Counter Air / Future Naval Capabilities (CA/FNC) program to develop technologies that can be incorporated into next generation air-to-air missile systems. The nearly $10-million contract was issued by the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, China Lake, California. ATK will work in concert with NAWCWD to identify specific propulsion technologies to develop for integration into future missile systems. The work is expected to >be completed by June 2013.

The scope of the CA/FNC program is to develop technologies that will extend missile range, decrease time-to-target, improve end-game maneuverability, and improve the rocket motor’s response to insensitive munitions (IM) stimuli. These improvements are oriented towards the 7-inch diameter Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM) that is currently in use by the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air >Force, and many allied nations, but will be applicable to other air-to-air missile systems.

There are four main areas that ATK will be concentrating their development efforts on which include: high burn rate propellants for improved kinematics; improving case stiffness for reduced weight and agility; low erosion nozzles for improved performance; and multi-pulse propulsion for end-game maneuverability. Additionally, ATK will address the IM requirement by incorporating affordable solutions including an advanced propellant formulation, a low cost composite case, and mitigation safety devices proven on other tactical rocket motor programs."

Honestly, not really.

GPS guidance in warthunder is basically just IOG, but with a fixed deviation instead of inertial drift. The thing is, current ARHs in game have a drift speed of 2m/s. At the 15 degree angle of half sensitivity seekers have, and a nominal detection range of 16km. You have an effective area of detection of around 4.2 kilometers.

A missile with these specs would need to fly for around 35 minutes before it would see an improvement in ability to find targets in LOAL.

GNSS irl is largely for midcourse waypoint guidance updates. It doesnt actually really improve fixed target LOAL.

Well, it would theoretically let you bias the searched volume to account and offset the predicted point of intercept to increase the likelihood that a lock is recovered once it goes active.

once you account for post Cold stage maneuvers for an unsupported missile.

I doubt the two way datalink will be modelled and i definitely doubt the missile will be much different from the C-5 if at all
Gaijin has a history of just not modelling the Amraam correctly and the documents they require to do any improvements are too classified…

It is already modelled. If your missile loses own lock, it will reconnect with mother aircraft (when using TWS).

I believe Elijah is talking specifically about being able to receive targeting information mid-course from friendly assets and not just the mother aircraft.
