The AIM-120 'AMRAAM' - History, Design, Performance & Discussion

d-3 reportedly has a bigger motor than the c-5’s +5 motor. and all 120D’s have a dual pulse motor according to this on page 25

unfortunately having seen this before, its not really a great source as its an offhand comment in a masters thesis

admittedly in the references are multiple things that are not publicly available, however the source referenced after that claim is a secondary source at best

Eh the motor section is slightly bigger, but the fuel size is same, what i can find is that it uses a different motor composition or large grain

No aim120d dont have dual pulse

Whats the use of wide launch angle if it pulls worse than an aim7 ingame.

when the enemy plane is 8km+ from you its a big win you not needing to point your nose

he is missing the real upgrade here, if my understanding is correct the next gen of ARH missiles will have two way data link, witch should allow the missile to take info from the parent aircraft even after the active phase. this should make these missiles as hard if not harder to lose than the R-27ER.

Arh missiles in game already do this if you maintain the same lock form that you originally shot the missile with and if the missile is in look down

yes but two way would allow for that in all situations not just the case of look down also the missiles would reacquire after chaff dissapates.

Well yes and no because in order for the ARH to go back to DL+IOG the target needs to be in a notch angle and then as long as you keep a hard lock or a tws lock the missile will continue to guide itself towards the target

With 2 way datalink you will be able to relock targets switch targets mid course just like the r27 er but better

Which should allow the missile to take info from aircraft other than the parent aircraft*.

nice misquote, you missed the rest of the sentence.

Was just correcting the sentence because I have not seen two-way datalink be described as how you put it.

ah yes what you said is a feature, but two way means the missile can send data back to the aircraft witch along with guidance transfer it more importantly for WT improves mid course guidance and re-acquisition.

Yeah but I still haven’t seen anything saying that two-way datalink = missile takes info during active tracking phase. I’d be curious to see if any sources state something of that sort.

Yeah even basic r-77 has that capability (parent radar transmitting info even after missile seeker lock on)

So it’s not special to 2 way datalink seekerheads

Aim120d and onwards get 2 way datalink btw

i think the key difference would be entering a “re-search” vs the aircraft knowing the missile is off course as the missile relays it’s targeting data and correcting it immediately.

that being said this means we should not be able to see when the missile loses lock in game, that should be exclusive to tow way. this leads me to believe the data link for ARH missile in molded very poorly, or they have some info that lead them to make the missiles prioritize there own radar over the info from the parent aircraft.

Key difference is that it allows guidance via other fighter jet radars/awacs

What you said is also possible with 1 way datalink if i am not wrong but only if commanded by the jet who fired it

i am talking about things that would effect WT in IRL that is the main diff

Added this later srry
