The AIM-120 'AMRAAM' - History, Design, Performance & Discussion

not even, currently aim 120a/b hits before c5 at ranges up to 15-20km

the new 120c5 is no batter than aim-7,according to thelatest update, maybe we should do something?

Dev server isn’t over yet but, considering the c5 was supposed to be more maneuverable and it currently isn’t I’m a little worried how it’s going to end up when it comes to live.

The mobility nowadays is really bad. It’s just a broken wooden stick that rushes out to look for water when its bottom is on fire

The maneuvreability likely comes from the HOBS capability and higher average speed, rather than anything else.

brother, do you have a chart similar to that for C-8/D-3 variant?

saw this while scrolling through the 2026 budget stuff

The HOBS isnt really needed what is needed is the improved seeker
I find it insane thats one of the major upgrades for the C5 and gaijin completely ignored it
Meanwhile the mica is in here as the ONLY fox 3 with a improved seeker

It’s needed alongside with better seeker.

Right now C5 has the worst HOBS capabilities with normal seeker which makes it pretty much bad compare to other missiles at close range.

I feel like the HOBS is asking for too much since the information actually proving it had upgrades for that are extremely limited
the only proof of upgrades we have are from the motor obviously and the radar seeker im just wondering why gaijin has not upgraded the seeker

As far as I know there are enough informations about HOBS capability.

Afaik, for HOBS, all AMRAAMs underperform. Gaijin pulled that .6 sec delay out of their ahh and the problem is that the delay still remains on the C-5 too. Mind you, the R-3R and the AIM-9C have a .5 guidance delay, same for the falcon

It’s a distance delay(can be converted to a time delay) and is historical atleast to the tornado. I reported it.

Doesn’t explain how to AIM-120 has a worse delay than the R-3R

Rail Vs Rail or Ejector launchers. I hazard a guess the AMRAAM delay is down to it being able to be fired from ejector launchers which means it can be further back on the aircraft and need more time to clear it.

So, any buffs for it’s HOBS capabilities besides the delay then?

Because 120A/B wasn’t really for that role. C5 almost certainly has a lower delay, but we don’t have a sources for it, so it’s up to gaijins discretion to model the C5’s HOBS, currently it has no HOBS capability at all, which’s disappointing, but nobody has reported it.

That makes sense, for example in the video of an r-77 being launched then lofting, there’s a around .1 sec delay between booster activation time and being launched, and then another around .3 second delay between booster activation time and actual maneuvering which leads to a total delay of around .4 to .5 seconds. I would assume when it’s rail launched and not dropped, the delay just is .3 seconds. (go to 2:44, idk why the link isn’t working with time)

what’s min launch range for amraam? r-77 is 300m rear aspect for example
