The AIM-120 'AMRAAM' - History, Design, Performance & Discussion

Ok, i think this is just a bug and AMRAAMS AOA would be same in live server after update, though it kinda reminds of the time AIM-120C5 was first added, didn’t that also have similar kind of pull in dev?

Every single Fox-3 missiles got buffed significantly.

I think Gaijin preparing us for next gen missiles with these changes and I surely hope they stay like this.

in this last image, the covered missile is the aim-120d

the ones labelled “new” are from the old dev server patch, the ones labelled “newer” are from today

Looks like the best time to get back in the GE

Most likely, I have a feeling we will get them next update with ECM

Im gunna wait till live to see if these changes remain. Because Aim-7 got some extreme buffs, which were then undone. The Dev server is used to test things, not just actual things that will make it to live

As far as I know the AIM-7 changes were not reverted entirely, and most of them remain in effect.

The really extreme ones I think were, where they could pull crazy HOBS shots. It kinda looks the same as a few of these AMRAAM changes

I hope im wrong, but im guessing whilst we’ll still see AMRAAM notably improved, it wont be quite as improved as we are seeing right here, right now (thats providing they dont do a CR2, and just revert all changes when it goes to live)

Ideally the energy retention is improved, and turning for late model missies remains better after motor burnout. But I have noticed they are still pulling within maneuvering limits

Technically speaking, even pre-update it was always a fine aircraft. Just fly high, launch at targets down low and let GNSS+DL do its thing XD

I also have the feeling that they might tune it down back to somewhere between this and the last update AIM120, which would still be a much better missile than before. I’ve seen some people complaining that the AMRAAM currently does basically 90+ degrees of AOA in certain situations, and that probably would not be realistic for a missile with no TVC and only rear fins

inb4 someone cites that video of an AMRAAM’s rear fins deflecting to the max:

idk if you are being ironic or not, but to those bringing max fin deflections, i’m talking about the body of the missile itself reaching 90+ degrees of AOA, which would probably end up flipping the missile because of aerodynamical constraints (those who played KSP know what I mean)

that is because its maneuverability was still a copy of pre nerf 120A

Which had 25ish fin AoA, no? which current dev value.

R-77 now has better time-to-target performance at long range than the AIM-120A at high altitude.

more accurate if could provide a target that notches in a 9G turn after the pitbull.

Did all the changes from the latest dev server update make it into the major update unchanged? I’m asking because I can’t find a current comparison of the AIM-120A/B to the AIM-120C/D anywhere—is it worth taking a few AIM-120A/Bs into close-range combat? Is the difference in maneuverability between the A/B and C/D models now so small that it’s safe to just use the C/D?

C/D is just straight up better, dont use A/B if you have C or D

Even in terms of pulling?
