I band is pretty standard among fox 3
Don’t forget significantly less maneuverability due to only having rear fins.
Why are we arguing over what radar band the missiles use?
AMRAAM has higher sustained AoA capability and superior mobility post-burn than the MICA. TVC is useful only early in the launch IRL.
i hope you realize that the AD4A hops between frequencies and doesnt stay at the highest frequency
am tired though so you can look that up yourself
not gonna spend my time explaining it
Ok, within what bandwidth? We can put it into calculator, no problem.
However, you do realize that changing frequency also changes beamwidth?
Still, I’m even perfectly fine with that too, as long as the FoV gets appropriately adjusted.
So, you can lower the freq. to gain range, but you also make chaffing the MICA easier, as a consequence.
You see, you can’t use the benefits of a variable frequency without administering the drawbacks that the freq. change produces. I mean you can, but then you get a mess called War Thunder.
Can i get full pic?
No, stealth decreases lock range thats it, once you have a lock you are pretty good to go because then you have a ridiculously high target dwell time, allowing a much longer range
Rain still attenuates the radar return from targets though, reducing the range at which the seeker can see them. Regardless of any clutter it causes and whether that can be filtered out.
A seeker operating at 14GHz has 3x the attenuation in rain as a seeker operating at 10 GHz.
3 times is unrealistic
From what ive researched it would be around 1.5 to 2.5 time if the seeker operates at 14 ghz
3 times would make it inoperable
Also this amount of attenuation would only happen in an extreme downpour which rarely happens in Europe
“No the orange is actually slightly less orange than you say it is”
Yeah i knew about that before hand
Yes and no
Since the beamwitdth is linked to the band it uses
J band high frequency generates a narrow beamwitdth
In game if frequency hoping was a thing to have a 7.5° beamwitdth the frequency would be around 17 ghz
At the lowest frequency 12 ghz its beamwitdth is around 11°
So does the Xband.
Beamwidth depends on freq. Eg. 120 works in Xband, ie. 8-12GHz, while MICA works in Jband, ie. 10-20GHz. 120 working at 12GHz produces a narrower beam than the MICA working at 10GHz, while staying in Xband and MICA operating in Jband. Band nomenclature is irrelevant. It’s freq. that matters.
And I can live with that…IF that was a thing, but…it isn’t.
So, what we got in WT is best possible performance for MICA’s seeker, 7° without any drawbacks of such a high freq. Conversely, 120’s seeker got lower then the worst possible performance, with all the drawbacks…If GJ wanted for MICA’s seeker to have the same range as 120’s, it should have FoV of ~9° (14-15GHz), not 7° (~19-20GHz) and giving 120 12° (10GHz) would make the game much more balanced. If GJ wanted to maintain “historical accuracy” (if MICA even works that high) then the seeker’s range should’ve been reduced by 5-10km, while maintaining 7° FoV.
You can’t have your cake and eat it.
is there any report currently up for AIM-120C/D fin deflection?
Nothing that’s live, since the only evidence we’ve got arbitrarily doesn’t meet gaijin’s standards since they don’t use videos.
they will for sure take videos if its russian, ahem (kh38mt).
Spoiler
The only info i could find was the MTE from a airshow in 2024 and it possibly being mounted to a su34 other than that no proof of a IR kh38. i could be wrong if so correct me
for no reason what so ever, doesnt it also get a reduced smoke motor?
we got confirmation that the r77m has an aesa seeker?
on a different note how do you guys enjoy playing amraams? everytime i play my super horny i realize i could just be playing su30sm2, but then im tired of flankers so my will to play fox 3 is just 0, ive been playing the tomcat more than the super hornet and the tomcat sucks even more.
This was discovered to be an IR seeker.
And we have some pics of it mounted to a plane, and some more info.

“Enjoy playing with AMRAAMs”…
I don’t enjoy it, I endure it…
There has never been any evidence that either of those missiles shown in the images were anything other than a mock-up. In fact, I think someone once found a blog post from the people who built the air show model confirming it was a mock-up.
