The abhorrent state of Heli EC PvE and the poor implementation of Heli EC PvP

Bring back PvP by literally just adding helicopters to Sim EC, and it would be super fun. Also decreasing the RP cost, or increasing the RP modifier. For the most part, I agree.

DCS took 3 years to complete their overhaul, and they had less stuff to work on; granted they also had lower priority.

I’m just not expecting it anytime soon. I think sometimes next year. Maybe. In the meantime. There is a lot they could do to fix the current issues. Especially with the AI PVE targets. Things like the convoys phasing through the ground, should not have taken this long to be fixed.

They aren’t phasing through the ground though, the visual models are desyncing from the physical/damage models.
That’s a different issue entirely and likely requires an overhaul itself.

In either case. It happens all the time in Heli PvE and I’ve got a bug report more than a year old for it happening in Air SIM. It’s about time they fixed that issue

oh yeah, the desyncing is annoying as hell if you’re playing helicopters without target tracking

uhhh, I don’t know man, I had enough of Vikhrs sniping my Mi-4AV back in 2020, let alone getting sniped by AGM-65D, AIM-9M, AIM-54, and other A2A weapons from a Mach 1.4 jet

How high do you fly your helicopter? 30k ft?
The only way you going to die to radar munitions is if your well above the ground, and can’t dodge. AGM-65D is IR, and super high BR, and probably would be wasted on pylon space, the 9M won’t be able to lock Helis with IIRCM or active heat counter measures until point blank. And the AIM-54 is a flying telephone pole, if you can’t dodge that, RIP.

A flying telephone pole with the warhead of a 250lb bomb that will kill things by splash damage. Yeah. I agree with the AGM-65D and 9M but with how… uneducated helicopter players are, especially when we’re talking about active countermeasuring… nah, even 9B can be a dangerous missile against them.

After like 5 months of inactivity, I have returned

The game mode is becoming even worse. I capped the first zone that spawned,returned to the heliport aaaaand…

It instantly got bugged. No confirmation that I landed on any pad, no confirmation that the objective is complete.

Why.

I will say that I’m happy starting down the American heli line and not having AA guarding the base sites anymore. It also seems that the pathing and targeting of ground objects has improved. The base capture objective along with the destroyable bases did bug out over time, but honestly having the bases be unguarded tended to just have people hovering over them lobbing rockets and bombs over and over.

The targeting of the convoy SPAA seems to have gotten even more pinpoint. I can be moving perpendicular to a convoy at 150 mph at between 2.5 and 3 km while vertically serpentine maneuvers, and I’ll be clipped within 4 volleys trying to get to cover. I’ve given up trying to even attack convoys in helis without guided missiles because of this.

So it is somewhat better, but could still use some love.

Coming back to this thread after 61 updates and 5 major updates since April just to say that the game mode is still terrible. It’s actually even worse now that they added that ridiculous new damage mechanic that disables your ability to use weapons after you take even the slightest amount of damage. I can’t tell you how many times I got close enough to a convoy to attack it just for me to take one hit to the pinkie toenail of my helicopter and lose my ability to shoot rockets and that’s even after I managed to avoid the 100% ACCURATE AIMBOT SPAA. Oh man, I could write a book on this bs.

EVERY game ends up with most of the team leaving because the game mode is just so bad.

There are planes in the air that most players can’t even reach. Convoys are nearly untouchable because of the SPAA that can pilot snipe you from 4km. Trees have invisible hitboxes so you can’t even fly at tree top level without your rotors despawning out of nowhere. Helicopters with guided missiles make other helicopters virtually useless. Players spend 5 minutes flying to an objective just for it to get destroyed by another player sitting 6km-10km away from it and players are constantly scrambling to get points. Maps are always empty because the same players with guided missiles destroy everything as soon as it spawns. The hell am I supposed to do in a stock Mi-24P with unguided rockets? You could argue “skill issue”. My brother in rotary wing, I got 8 kills in ground RB with unguided rockets in the Mi-24A(Talisman AND premium btw.) and all I got was a slap in the face and a fart in a jar.


Try to fly a heli in ground RB and tell me how easy it is to get kills with a stock heli.

And what do the devs do? Pump out more modern top tier aircraft or vehicles and make graphical updates that NOBODY asked for. “Hey, we know the game is garbage but here’s ray tracing and a bunch of squadron vehicles no one’s really gunna use!”. They put more effort into ignoring helicopter gameplay than it would have taken to improve it. There is absolutely no reason we got a STEALTH AIRCRAFT before heli PvE has been worked on.
Wanna know the worst part? TONS of players have pretty much given them the answers on how to fix it and they STILL ignore them. They even asked for player feedback when heli PvE first came out and everyone was like “Yeah this is kinda cheeks and heres why-”. You know what they did in the last 4 years?

  • Lowered the RP and SL multipliers
  • Removed the ability to use wagers in the gamemode
  • Removed SPAA from bases
  • Added the capture zone bullcrap (its bugged half the time and only one spawns at a time)

Thats it. After 3 years that’s it.

I used to think, “Guys, give the devs some credit they are working really heard on improving gameplay!”. Now I’m starting to think they’re making the game boring, monotonous, and frustrating on purpose while drip-feeding us slop so players cave in and spend money in an effort to make the game suck a little bit less. NOBODY is about to try to grind out the Mi-4 with no premium or talisman. It would take them literally months with how bad heli gameplay is. It’s just really irritating to know how good this game COULD be if the devs listened to the player base and stopped worrying about how much money they can squeeze out of them. Its insane.

This comment is the exact thing that has been living in my head rent-free, but no, gaijin decided that Heli PvE will never get its fix. Oh what’s that, do you want to grind your helicopter line? Go play ground RB and use your tank. Oh do you want to spade the helicopter you’ve researched? Congrats! Pick one of the two gamemodes where you’ll never be able to get mods complete in one match, and each match only worsens your sanity!

Do you prefer:

  1. A Heli-only mode with an absurdly accurate AI SPAA that will 100% kill you everytime you fly on its 3km engagement radius, a very empty map with various bugs to surprise you, and after killing 100 ground targets, you only get… uh… 10k RP!

or,

  1. A mixed battle mode where god knows if you’ll get a kill, an assist, or a 105mm round right to your cerebral cortex, and only get 100RP each failed run, and if Gaijin is on your side, 1000RP each successful run.

It’s been a long time since I last tested the mod. Still so empty, we spend our time flying, the objective of capturing then resting at a heliport is really unclear. In short, no need to list what was said above.
There is only SL level that is good.
