Team killing policy - follow up thread

Apparently, teamkilling is perfectly justifiable if you’re flying an Israeli aircraft. Well, according to Chat it is. I mean it’s tough enough putting up with the Sakeen without having to be wary of your own team too 😂

Is this attitude prevalent throughout the BRs, because if it is, there’s no point carrying on trying to grind Israel.

its an inseparable part of the experience 😏

If somebody takes the effort to read the whole thread it is obvious that gaijin reacts either way too late (meaning with temp bans for team killing) or is unable to find the right mix between punishing team killers and protecting of the majority of players who are somehow able to avoid team killing.

So in order to change the current state of Air RB it is time to think about different strategies to deal with that.

Based on my perception of team kills in Air RB it seems that the majority of team killers can be clustered into 3 categories:

  1. Griefers = Players with the goal to prevent others from scoring
  2. Frustrated Tankers = Unable to play Air RB somehow successful
  3. Low-IQ Players = Guys unable to understand the game & mechanics

Currently gaijin track team kills with their auto-ban tool - but the threshold to get a temp ban (1D, 1 W, etc) is way too high

I recommend that gaijin rethinks their strategy for temp bans as following:

  1. Set up of a team kills counter for all modes
  2. Counting team kills in RB and SB modes
  3. Auto ban for RB and SB modes at minimal thresholds
  4. Set up of a fast appeal process in case bans were false

Example:

Little Timmy is a tanker and plays Air RB to spade a CAS plane. With the first team kills he gets an automated warning that after his second team kill within the next 10 days he will get a 2 day temp ban for RB and SB modes, but is still allowed to play AB modes.

After the 2 day ban the next two team kills with 30 days after his 2 day ban will grant him a week RB and SB mode ban. And so on…

If gaijin is smart they exclude Naval RB and SB modes from these bans, this might help to populate this mode with wt addicted players - and RB and SB bans for Ground an Air modes allow them still to play (and spend money / benefit from premium time) whilst all other players in RB & SB modes are protected.

And i do not talk about being protected from getting team killed - the impact on the numbers game is often way more decisive as most Air RB matches are decided as TDM match…

I would like to introduce everyone to “what constitutes a teamkill”, this time our little helper is not Captain_Cobvious, but some random griefer ramming a nuke plane:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Warthunder/comments/1r80hnj/finally_got_a_nuke/

I know, I know, it’s reddit, but I can’t embed Reddit videos elsewhere.

Anyway, as clearly evident, when getting rammed YOU ARE THE OFFENDER.
Learn it guys and learn it fast. If you are getting abused, IT’S YOUR OWN DAMN FAULT.
You should have been stronger.
I just don’t get why the same logic is not applied to actual teamkills.
I mean, if somebody didn’t want to be teamkilled, he should have avoided his teamkiller teammate, sideclimb and git gud, preferably by buying a pay2win premium plane.

Then there are troll squads, last time at 5.7 I met 1 guy in Fw 190 D9 with 2 Fw 200C squadmates. Guess who got accidentaly spanked after takeoff. If such people get shot down (always accidentaly aim at the high BR dude, so he has to watch his low BR buddy struggle while getting bored to death himself), I don’t think there’s anything morally wrong in it.

go play toptier ARB, u will see how u lose 50k in a blink.

Even at rank 7 I can relate tbh. Though that’s also because I suck

No thanks - not interested in that furball.

It looks like the tracking team kill / friendly fire counter & auto-kick function is not working properly in Air RB. Usually u see max 2 team kills before the auto-kick.

In this replay:

Gaijin Entertainment - Single Sign On

…of a prop Air RB match you see a Mosquito (tag: panzer…) team killing 3 own team mates before the auto-kick - and a 4th guy he damaged died later.

4 team kills and one auto-kick in 60 seconds - how shall the enemy team win?

They had no chance - so single guy minimized all running boosters and mission score (for both teams) during a grinding event. This is imho a case where a temp ban for a few days is not sufficient…

I got teamkilled + a death threat (sometimes). Does that mean I call the police according to the laws (EU) if gaijin dosen’t do anything?

@PercussionCap saw your post on reddit and I genuinely hope you took a break from this terrible game.
I tried to find their stupid ass to report in the replay but couldnt, if that happened to me I would straight up delete my account and never touch wt again lol

Eh, it’s alright. I just hope they get banned for a while.

lol, fat chance I’m afraid. Actually you’re more likely to get banned yourself if they report you T_T

A classic example of why the team killing incidents alter the outcome of Air RB matches and why gaijin (no effective deterrence) and players (Team killing AND the killing team killers as SJWs) are the root cause for that:

Gaijin Entertainment - Single Sign On

My own team played a rather bad match and the enemy team played 5 vs 3. A Pyoerremski, a F4U-4, a J-26, a J-22 and a B-25 vs my B7A2, a Pe-8 and a rookie in a 190 A-5. No chance to win.

But - the J-22 player had previously managed to score 2 team kills without getting kicked and and one of his team decided to punish him for that - the F4U-4 player gave up his positional advantage center map and flew back to his main airfield in order to educate the team killer.

He tried 2 times to ramm the J-22 and killed him then with his guns. Thx to this action the numbers went down to 3 vs 3 (the B-25 crashed) and the F4U-4 was too low to catch my diving Pe-8. The Pe-8 killed the Pyoerremski, the F4U-4 the Fw 190 leaving us in a 2 vs 2.

Long story short: The 5 kill J26 fought well but lost the 1 vs 1 and the F4U-4 ran out of fuel and needed to rtb. The 7 base kills granted us a ticket win.

From a pure team game play perspective the action of the J-22 (2 own fighter kills) and the F4U-4 (Avenging team killed mates) rendered the efforts of their 14 team mates as useless - these 14 guys lost the victory bonus and more RP thx to the plain stupid actions of the 2 mentioned players, this can’t be right…

At this point, I would be happy for ANY tangible consequences for teamkilling in my main mode of Air RB. As it is now, the repair costs of the damaged players are laughable as deterrant.

There have been so many suggestions - but I don’t see any. Two years ago, there was some banning. That helped - for a while. The teamkillers are back. And worse than before.

In case Gaijin wants some fresh ideas to ignore, here are some creative ones:

  • Each team kill incurs a minimum ban of 6 hours. The next team kill within the same week after their return resets the week timer, and now counts as 12 hours. Then 24, 48, 96, etc. hours. That doubling leaves some breathing room for the accidental TKs of the missile slingers. (and of course apologising and apology accepted absolves you). A week without TKs resets your doubling timer.
  • Team killing penalty SL repair costs are multiplied by any booster in effect for you AND by any in effect for the victim (makes it quite the gamble, and even the +10% for the team might hurt!)
  • Team Killer is automatically assigned to a special “penalty” team for the rest of the match: red to anyone, so may be killed with impunity, but any player they kill from ANY team counts as teamkill.

I’ll preface this with that i’m not responsible for issuing TK-bans nor do i have behind the scenes knowledge on exactly how that is monitored and done. I also am not arguing with your main point of wanting to increase punishments, i just wanted to inform about some things that you perhaps might not know given what you write.

I recommend checking the “Fair Play” posts with the cheat bans here on the forum ( Search results for 'fair play in:title #official-news-and-information order:latest_topic' - War Thunder — official forum ), they also mention how many players received bans that are longer than one week for teamkills/griefing. There are MANY more bans issued outside of those that are mentioned in those posts because they are shorter than one week bans and thus not mentioned.

There is already a system like that, not exactly as you described but there is already an automatic system that bans players for teamkills and takes into account the number of teamkills (and damage) over a period of time and issues bans with corresponding lengths to the number of penalty points they have gotten over that specific period of time (https://support.gaijin.net/hc/en-us/articles/200069301-Teamkilling). Manual bans are issued for those that try to circumvent the system.

That makes 2 of us👍

I mean if you look at this:

…it is quite clear that gaijin is either unwilling or unable to solve even basic problems like getting marked as teamkiller in case somebody rams you. This issue is existing for years and you find every few days a new bug report addressing this.

I have a certain level of understanding when technical solutions for things like correct “guilt” allocation in case of collisions are way too expensive to implement - but such rather easy ideas like no damage in case of collisions when no enemy within 1 km could are neither discussed or implemented.

In order to have an “exiting game experience” gaijin might look a this topic from a different perspective: Why should people invest GE in buying prem vehicles, prem time or prem boosters if they don’t create an environment in which the player can make them work?

With all due respect, there hasn’t been any publicly declared teamkiller banning for a long time.
And if that is not public, there is no deterrent whatsoever.
All the “fair play” list of accounts banned are for “cheating and bots”, recently.
Right now the perception is: Teamkilling is not persecuted.

There is one every month together with the cheat bans. You can look at it yourself. Here are the last 5 quoted for you (i don’t know why Dec and Feb were skipped):

If they get enough bans on record it’s eventually gonna turn permanent.

This is what those players see and where they are warned that it can turn permanent if they continue:

Ah my mistake, I looked at the spreadsheet. Not at the number in the post. I apologise.

I agree - a deterrence works if gaijin would lower their temp ban threshold AND would ban 100-150 players permanently every month - confirmed by lists with gamertags…
