The Chieftain and Challenger 1 literally have near identical TOG’s box on their turrets, just Flipped on different sides. And SOURCE after source i can find online states the Challenger 1s were fitted with TOG’s Mk1, atleast the original Mk2 Variants. Maybe later they were upfitted, but as built they had TOGs Mk1.
Ok let me explain it to you, slowly.
Thermals in game are not based on resolution or anything like that, but on the generation of technology used.
SPRITE falls under second generation of thermal imaging.
Cr2 and Tornado GR.4 are already Gen 2.
Rest of the things have their reports written, sourced, and are waiting to be actioned by the devs.
Okay… and TOG’s… WHICH IS USED ON THE CHEIFTAIN MK11, and CHALLENGER 1.
Is a first generation thermal sight, its one of the first ever developed, only beat to the punch by the American’s with their TTS sight that would be fitted to the M60s.
The Challenger 1 was fitted with it 1984, when it was still in the prototype stages.
And YES they ARE based on resolution, compare a First gen sight in game, to a 2nd or third Gen, the Resolution and detail change heaps, and 2nd and Third generation sights are able to see through Foliage quite effectively.
Its not very well known about, from what i understand it wasn’t a very successful project, due to the Churchills tiny turret.
But it was attempted, back in the day of World of tanks actually taking SOME historical inspiration they used that Irish Churchill to justify giving the Churchill MKVII the 77mm gun In game.
