Tanks don't feel like tanks

Title. When I’m using an AMX-30 for example, I feel like I’m using a race car, not a tank. It’s not because of the speed, but because of matters such as traction and track noises.

My simple take is, I doubt a tank can drift on soil, and I also doubt a tank can’t climb a 50º slope. Another immersive aspect that’s missing is the sound tracks make. There are tons of videos, but in this one I’ve chosen you can clearly hear that characteristic acute sound they make.

Those 2 simple changes would greatly improve immersion in my opinion. There’s not much more else to say.

Gaijin tried fixing this in 2023, but the physics changes cause more issues than they solved.
Time will tell when they implement an overhaul.

Tank drifting:

Track sounds:
Turn up your “own engine sound”. Yes, “Sound Guy” is still working on it.

War Thunder is a video game not a simulator. About as overall “realistic” as a Loony Toons cartoon.

a solid 90% of tanks in War thunder are way too fast on every surface its quite stupid. Its also meant that vehicles that are accurate in speed such as Tiger 2 and scimitar are much slower in comparison to the rest of the pack.

heres a tank climbing a 60 degree slope

I said drifting on soil, not asphalt or concrete, and with tracks without rubber pads. Of course a tank can drift if the circumstances are optimal, but in WT tanks drift literally everywhere.

Meanwhile in WT tanks can’t deal with a 45º slope.

The TOG 2 and mk5 male cant cross a trench without getting stuck

Yeah tracks don’t have collisions and that messes up the trench-crossing abilities of tanks. In my opinion having proper track collisions and traction would solve it.

full track simulation would fix a majority of the issues with mobility. then fix how the game handles climbing hills to not be the utter joke it has been since launch and we are sweet

I’m still disappointed that gaijin has never attempted to model the ‘whine’ of Modern MBTs, especially with diesels like present on the Leopard and Merkava, alongside that, the sound of an APU would be a great addition for immersive sound.
All this with some more realistic engine sounds (maybe sampled from footage) would be amazing.

A good example can be heard in this clip, that sound behind the revving is missing in all sound design within war thunder:

Tanks can drift on soil, even on mud (though you’ll regret that)

All it does is displace the top layer of soil, they wouldnt go as far as they would on concrete for say.

though yall might be interested

Just drive the BTR-ZD to see a vehicle that seems to perform much better than what I would of assume a real world version would.

It’s carrying 6 soldiers, and a AAA gun with ammo, and the thing performs like a side by side. Stupid fast speed and acceleration, with cornering like a F1 car.
