T72 survivabilty against bombs

Recently I was playing a lot on 9.3br and stumbled across interesting thing with t72. My finnish t72m1 survived direct hit of CAB500 bomb of Yak130, and today I landed two direct hits on soviet t72a with 1000 pound bombs and the second one even flew through the turret, here are videos of this. What do you think?

There have been some issues with bombs and their damage in general recently.

fr ive noticed 500lb bombs killing me in my Maus when there 10-20m away, but then there can be a 2K lb bomb that was dropped on my head and all i lose is my tracks and my main gun

There are a lot of such incidents in the game and some times it happens with other nations too except Russian tanks …but according to my experience the difference is that for example in every 10 such incidents the 7-8 concern russian tanks and the rest other nations ( i wonder why?). Play the game and have your own opinion about it.

Partially because AGMs etc. do not have a guaranteed kill radius like bombs (which was broken recently, not sure if its been fixed since) and as such, usually rely on overpressure to destroy vehicles.

Russian mbts in general have less platings that are thin enough for the fragmentation penetration of various warheads to suffice and in addition, a ton of modules on them are made external for some reason (i.e. not in the list of modules considered to be inside of the fighting compartment) and as such, any fragments (of the warhead) hitting such won’t cause (over)pressure damage calculation to take place.

Examples of this are: Autoloader module on T-72/90 (not sure abt T-80), Breech on T-90M (not sure about the others and cba to check) and iirc FCS.

There are also issues, such as double-cupola platings on some T-80s and T-64s, which can prevent fragments from striking the commander and also shouldnt be there but I havent gotten around reporting it yet.

Sometimes, your AGM may just strike a certain section on the roof of a mbt where it simply cant get any fragments inside the fighting compartment/to hit any internal module (The wedge-addons on Leopard 2a5’s/a6/a7 & Strv 122s are a good example for this)

This exact thing is also the reason why e.g. Puma could be overpressured by shooting below the gun with 25mm HEI (and worse shells), because the moment a fragment of the shell hit the h-drive module (which was, until recently, considererd as internal/inside fighting compartment), the (over)pressure-damage calculation was started. This happens even when the shell itself (and its’ fragments) technically cannot penetrate the armour itself/never enter the fighting compartment - aslong as a internal module is struck by a fragment from such shell, pressure damage is applied on the point of detonation.

If that doesnt happen (i.e. no internal module is struck by a fragment), then the (over)pressure damage wont be applied.

The T72M1 isn’t as “overpowered” as the other T72s can be, largely because of the complete lack or ERA, but it has incredible armor for the BR, when you play it correctly on good maps like Maginot Line (I got a 13 kill game once) hull down nobody stands a chance at killing it. I’ve tanked 11 rounds from a T58 before. The biggest advantage it really has is 430 millimeters of penetration on 3BM15 and 420 on 3BM22, both being 125 millimeter APFSDS rounds they hit like a truck, capable of one shotting everything at the BR. It is not unbalanced, mostly because of the lack of mobility and gun depression, but played correctly it is incredibly powerful, and the low profile make it resistant to air attacks of any sort and hard to spot.

There is not a guaranteed kill radius for bombs, especially for Russian tanks—not now and not ever. Maybe recently is more common to see such incidents but again as i said before 8 of 10 them are about russian tanks.
I have posted myself plenty of such cases and you can see even more of them on youtube concerning
again by vast majority russian tanks.
The same thing is happening with artillery strike hits. Russian tanks again survive direct lethal hits for an ‘‘unexplained’’ reason…

I think u put the wrong video in the drive for the third video. There was no Finnish T-72M1 in that. only a Scimitar and T-54

Oh yes, thank you. Removed wrong video

Sole issue with the 11m value here is that they broke the guaranteed kill radius a while ago

This only applies to certain bombs though, AGMs, Rockets, etc. do not have this.
