The protrusions on the sides of the lower front plate are for the front idler wheel pivot. I don’t think they should actually be a weak spot but I have no way of proving it. The actual hull of the M26 has a notch in the side, so any shell that hits the bulge wouldn’t actually penetrate into the crew compartment.
You can see the corners of the hull are actually angled, not straight.

Here’s the idler wheel pivot and the boss in the hull.

Fixed
The T26E5 is reasonably well rounded, and if a tiger 2 is carrying full ammo a perfect shot to the MG port will one-tap it. The tiger 2 can kill the T26E5 by: lower plate, right and left side, MG port, turret ring, and sometimes even the roadwheel shot. The tiger 2 doesn’t need to be nerfed, the armor is pennable by stuff at 6.7-7.0, but the T26E5 should absolutely NOT be nerfed regardless of whether it actually is or not due to the fact that it retains the 90 mil first appearing at 6.0 at 6.7 going up against is2s.
Like the Jumbo 75 using the same gun as the M4A2 Sherman (4.0) going up against IS-2 (1944) or Tiger 2 H?
But meh stabalizer… can shoot shells on the move that stuggle to pen anything with any armour
The jumbo has impenetrable armor at it’s tier, it has very small weakspots and when played correctly can pen everything frontally, except a Tiger 2. The T26E5 has a 90 mil that cannot frontally pen a Tiger 2 ANYWHERE and has a large variety of weaknesses. Also the jumbo can only encounter the Tiger 2 (P), not the Tiger 2 (H) in arcade and rarely in a full uptier. At 5.7 though you get the T1E1 (90) which has a high performing gun, plus the smaller 37 millimeter that is effective against light tanks and good for disabling.
You referenced a 6.0 90mm going up against 6.7 … as in uptier.
The thread is RGB.
And full uptiers happen regularly for 5.7
So the 90mm will have problems with IS2, but not the Jumbo 75mm?
“everything frotally except a Tiger 2”. What?
honestly it could go to 6.0 because its just straight up worse than the tiger 2 p in almost every way
So I guess all the tank destroyers at that BR, the panther, is2, etc just don’t exist then
This is a GRB thread. In realistic, the jumbo is uptiered to face the tiger 2h in nearly every match. Which it can’t do anything to except shoot the tracks/barrel because the 75 can’t even pen the mg port. Oh and the tiger 2p is just as hard to pen with the 75 as the 2h. Only the 76 can pen its turret face. And the 76 jumbo is even worse. It’s at the same BR as the tiger 2p now despite its only advantage being the low speed stabilizer, so its armor is completely useless and its gun is absolutely pitiful.
You can kill it with a cupola shot thanks to the power of APHE. This is not to invalidate your argument btw, this is 100% a compression problem, they (Jumbo 75 and Serienturm Tiger II) should not see each other in a properly decompressed environment. That said, I’ve seen it done and a couple Jumbos have done it to me. It’s rare, but it’s good to know you have the option next time you run into that encounter.
I somewhat disagree on the Jumbo 76 and pre series Tiger II. BRs are not set by 1v1s. On most maps, you will contribute more to your team in a Jumbo 76 than in the pre series Tiger II. The former is imho just a better vehicle against most of the opposition you’re gonna meet and on most of the maps you’re gonna play.
I’m not sure how you have gotten killed via the cupola by a 75 because I have never had that gun pen the cupola, and protection analysis says it can’t unless you are a decent bit above the tiger 2 and shooting down. The only gun I have ever had a cupola shot work with is the short 90, and even then I have only ever done it twice because there’s only like 2 pixels that it can actually pen, and if you don’t hit the shot perfectly it just bounces. And with other guns (like the long 90 or the 105 or 120), I haven’t even tried a cupola shot since there’s really no point since those can just go straight through the turret face anyways.
Like I said, it’s rare but it happens. The two times I can remember for sure were on Advance To The Rhine near B, and Seversk in Battle configuration where the B cap is, the little square. In both cases it was flat ground and in both cases I died because some of the APHE fragments travelled into the turret and managed to ignite the ammo.
Is only reliable up to a point tbh.
Does it actually bounce or does it simply punch through without killing anyone? Esp. if their commander is already dead.
Yep.
I’d be curious to try it with the KWK 42 of the T-V. In test drive it can kill a Tiger II through the MG port if you hit one specific area, but I’ll only trust test drive so far, and I didn’t try the cupola.
In any case, given the fast reload and limited pen of the Jumbo’s 75mm, it does no harm to try. Track + barrel and try cupola on the move, if it doesn’t work you can always complete the flank.
It’s how I learned where to shoot enemy tanks when I was first starting out and having trouble with a few of them.
It does bounce. All but the 2 times where I tried it and it worked, it just said “ricochet” if you hit even slightly too high or low.
Didn’t say it was useless, only that it will not give you universally complete information.
