i do think the 88 is really only a side grade for it since you loose the OP BS angle performance of the russian APHE
I prefer the 8.8 over the Russian 85 but personal preference any 8.8 tank shouldn’t be in ussr tho unless modfied same with the Russian 85 in Germany (unless we modified some t-34-85)

85 was second best gun of 5.7 back when they where all at same br the 88 was number 1 just cause its good all round but 85 isnt exactly weak either

I hope not and it would be stupid for them do that. The soviets had nothing to do with this modification it should be unique and stay in Germany. Its like asking for the up gunned kv1C in ussr it just doesn’t fit

Yes, but if we add every nation every tank they have captured in any conflict, we could add a Mig-25 to Japan, a Maus in Russia, G8N1 to USA, and so on, it as absolutly no sense.
The Maus Russia captured wasn’t functional in any means
All technically it wasn’t a one off mod there’s at least 1 other tank that got the 8.8 conversion (likely more somewhere)

It just doens’t have any sense to add hybrid tanks like that. There is pictures of a 88 Flak mounted on a T-34 chassis, we won’t add every variant of I don’t know what hull that have been catpured. I’m totally against hybrid vehicle like that. Unless the coutry of origin of the vehicle did it.
Both a t34 85 and su85 have been proven to have the 8.8 field mod

Seriously they don’t make the guns or the ammos it wouldn’t be a domestic option is was done by Germany in the Kurtland pocket due to need and other documents stating they were ready to do it to more tanks. The only logical option for theses tanks are in germany

I didn’t said it would go to Russia, nor that it was made by them. I think it is not needed and it wouldn’t reflect a real tank that saw conflict. It is a tank made by field engineering, just as putting bricks, or sandbags on a tank.
It is a homemade, one-off modification, that in my opinion should not be intergrated, especially in a context of a long term conflict that is the Second World War, where this kind of material adaptation is so diversified ,on tanks as we are talking now, that means we could add thousand of versions of any tanks with more or less armor, different turret speed, different barrel, engine, optics,…
But they both very clearly saw combat lmao especially the su88 what had 85mm penetration marks

Yes and that’s why theses tanks are so cool because it shows how desperate Germany was during the ending months of the second world war to the point where they were so limited on ammo they were forced to rechamber tanks into their own caliber

And those are all unique variants compared to their last like all the t34 varients or panzer 4 they all have their differences to make them unique
‘Girl’ I’m tlking about the K20. And I don’t think it had a single confirmed kill. The pictures given here are showing a tank depot, where it is standing near acaptured T-34 and Pz, III and IV, so there are to proof it even worked correctly when the Russian captured it.
It goes in the same way, 1 or 2 yes, but there are already 6 captured tanks in the german tech tree, along 7 captured planes. We don’t need more; and all those saw conflict and have a complete written history, existing most of the time in multiples models of the variant.
It is not in a desesperate attempt, it was used to trick enemies by trusting the familiar frame. And they put their own caliber since the 88 was the best performing gun they had, with the long 88 at this time.

It was a desperate rush for any armour theirs documents of the tanks they had and the ammo counts it shows Russian 85mm ammo in particular being pretty much empty forcing them to either scrap and destroy the t34s and su85s they had or try to refurb them so they can fire German ammo and that’s what they did. It was by definition a forced regunning due to lack of ammo and other armour
