Added more specifications regarding displacement, propulsion, and precise armour layout for the bluewater ships of rank 2 and up, as well as a more detailed source listing. Also added a new Finnish top tier coastal vessel, the Turunmaa-class gun boat Karjala in a late refit, changing Turunmaa to be the original configuration. Turns out the Turunmaa-class served with three distinct artillery setups:
1 x 120 mm, 2 x 40 mm L/70, 1 x 40 mm L/60 (1969):
+1 for me, though I could do without some of the paper vehicles. I can begrudgingly get over those about to be laid down, given the extensive study, but I feel iffy about designs that had not gotten that far. I don’t want the game to have a ton of fake shit like WoWS, a great appeal of the game, at least for me, is that practically all the vehicles ingame existed in some capacity, and while I’m willing to be a bit more lenient with ships, I’m still cautious about giving Gaijin too much wiggle room. Knowing them, they’ll fuck it up.
I would also prefer to see the tree without paper vehicles. The Ansaldo designs are only present to show the most capable cruiser and coastal defence ship designs that were seriously considered if it was felt that Sweden absolutely needed to have something beyond the Sverige and Tre Kronor classes. I’m a bit on the fence about the Kustförsvarsfartyg 1939 design as while it was not laid down, it wasn’t just another paper design but a finished design that was ordered. It just didn’t have time to be laid down before the war started at which point long term shipbuilding programs were paused.
Found some stuff to support the list (great work, McPuff!). They are quite seaworthy with medium and upper medium ships, but to round things up the Ansaldo design should also be taken into consideration, even though only existing on paper.
Added more specific stats for bluewater rank 1, did a couple fixes, and included an alternate bluewater tree layout with Denmark and Norway under a spoiler
Certainly possible, but I have avoided adding the older coastal defence ships to be more in-line with the level of technology seen in other ships in War Thunder. The cutoff at Dristigheten is due to her being the first coastal defence ship with krupp armour. If the Svea or Oden-classes were to be added, they would have to be implemented with special modifiers to reflect their nickel steel and harvey armor. If they’re added, there are also other potential options like some of the modernised monitors
Just some data on Swedish WW2 destroyer torps. Notice that the performance of the 1936 and 1947 order torps are censored. They still have relatively small warheads but given that they operate at higher pressure, they should have a decent increase in performance. The source also notes that a modernization of destroyer torpedoes was carried out in 1946, increasing maximum speed to circa 43 knots while increasing range by circa 16% at low speed and by circa 25% at high speed
Very cool stuff, but given the low performance of these torpedoes against surface ships it’s unlikely that they’d be useful in War Thunder. Turns out the launch was specifically made from an unmanned Strb 90. A smaller unmanned boat with a single torpedo tube was also tested. Future missile armed versions are also mentioned
+1 We should definitely get more naval units. I know this might sound dumb for a proposition, but maybe the Baltics could be added to the coastal segment as well?
It could give
Viesturs class minesweeper
Eml Torm
LKL Partizanas
It’s not much but I’m hopeful that these could help bolster a Swedish coastal tree if there is no eastern/central european tree.
