History:

With the independence of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on the 29th of October 1979, certain roles that had been preformed by the British administration had to then be fulfilled by the new independent state. One of these roles was maritime security and search and rescue, which would be carried out by the newly formed Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Coast Guard (SVG Coast Guard). The first Patrol Boat in this new naval force would be the George McIntosh, named for one of the founders of the St. Vincent Representative Government.

The George McIntosh was constructed by Vosper in the United Kingdom, and was fully funded by the British Government as an independence gift. The 75 ft patrol vessel was graciously received and armed with her single 20mm Oerlikon cannon, she was commissioned on the 21 November 1981 with the Pennant Number SVG 05. She would soon see action with the rescue of the crew of the sinking motor vessel Simone V, in January of 1982. For a few years, the SVG 05 would serve as the flagship for the SVG Coast Guard, until being replaced by the larger SVG Captain Mulzac in June of 1987. Despite this the George McIntosh would continue to serve for many years providing the SVG Coast Guard with the capability to conduct maritime Search and Rescue, Exclusive Economic Zone and Fisheries patrols and drug interdiction missions. The George McIntosh would serve until 2009, when she was put in reserve, before ultimately being scrapped in 2012 after 31 years of service.
