Supermarine Type 545 "Super Swift": the Theoratical

Lets say the Royal Airforce decides to still give the Type 545 a chance.

How do you think it would have faired?

The Crecent wings are a complete mystery, I can’t think of another Super Sonic aircraft that used a design even somewhat similar to the Type 545’s Wings.

But its armament was going to be good, 4 ADEN’s, plus 4 firestreaks, Or bombs and rockets if needed for ground work.

It would have had Plenty of thrust, the Avon RA.14R having 14,500 lbf with the afterburner going (and thats on the first prototype, They planned for a even stronger engine)

It was also only HALF the weight of the Lighting, Full load with fuel and all was expected to be 20,147 lb, While the lightning was at 41,076 lb with all of that.

of course theatricals like this are basically pointless, But its still interesting to think about.

Okay im looking at this more… Did the Type 545 have tilting wings?

Because in every image i see of the thing they don’t quite fit the airframe.

And the space there looks alot like a area made to allow the wings to change angle. Similar to the F8 crusader and such

And its not like these are pictures of a Incomplete Airframe.

Its the complete airframe, as it was ready to fly.

And there even seems to be a set of access hatches in the side right where a Hydralics system would have been to control a wing tilt mechanism.

i say WOULD have been, because this is the Type 545 after being used as a training rig and stripped for parts. So its not complete.
