Hello everyone, and welcome to this new suggestion.

Today, I’m presenting a version of an aircraft already in the game, the Super Etendard.

(Since the in-game version is not defined in terms of version, but has the characteristics of a Standard 3, here is a suggestion for the aircraft’s Standard 5.)

Standard 5 is the latest of the Super Etendard standards. This version of the aircraft was introduced into service in 2006 and concerns 35 naval aircraft (modernizing aircraft already at Standard 4 and some still at Standard 3). Aimed at improving the technologies already present on board without having to replace major components, Standard 5 allowed the Super Etendard fleet to remain operational until 2016, when the aircraft was withdrawn from the French armed forces. The major additions of Standard 5 are the updated combat system, the addition of a GPS link for firing laser-guided bombs, and the integration of a new-generation designation pod for more precise target targeting. These modifications do not make the modernized Super Étendard a modern combat aircraft by the standards of its time, but they do allow it to retain a certain usefulness and effectiveness.

In the French armed forces, this version of the Super Étendard was the last to equip the naval forces, representing a real improvement in terms of combat capability, allowing for a more flexible connection between the older generation of Super Étendards and the Rafales Marines that gradually replaced them. Having served for 10 years, Standard 5 was deployed numerous times on the Charles de Gaulle, notably during counterterrorism deployments (Heracles and Arromanches operation) or in Lybia for the Hartmann operation. Decommissioned in 2016, this aircraft will be remembered as one of the finest aircraft in the French naval aviation, having brought numerous innovations and technologies
to the French Navy.

This version of the aircraft was deployed exclusively in the 11F flotilla, the oldest flotilla in the naval aviation, which traces its roots back to the First World War. First unit to receive the Super Etendard, it would also be the last to retire it after 38 years of service. The 11F currently operates Rafale Ms.

The aircraft is powered by a SNECMA Atar 8k50 with 49kN of thrust, allowing the aircraft to reach a maximum speed of 1180km/h and an altitude of 14850m. Its range is 2700km in ferry mode and 650km with maximum payload.

    The aircraft is equipped with Thales’ Anemone radar, a maritime surveillance radar that detects and tracks naval targets. This radar is used to designate and fire the Exocet missile.

  • RWR :
    The installed RWR is the Thales Sherloc, it allows to find and identify the different threats

  • Decoys :
    The aircraft can carry the Alkan 5081 decoy launcher (already present since standard 3) on its “0” hardpoints, but can also carry the Phimat chaff launcher and the Barracude and Barrax jamming pods.

In-game, this version of the Super Etendard would be the best addition for France, providing a light attack aircraft capable of accurately striking all types of targets and defending against various threats. In the French tree, this variant of the Super Etendard would fill the gap between the version already present in the game and faster attack aircraft such as the Mirage 2000D.
