I’ve used both R-77’s and SPAMRAAMs and I haven’t really noticed any noteworthy difference in the effectiveness of their seekers. The problems with the R-77 boil down to the improperly modeled drag where even with a supersonic launch the missiles will immediately hemorrhage their energy. This means that they have pathetic range and pathetic ability to chase targets. It’s depressing having a rear aspect shot on an afterburning enemy and knowing that a SPAMRAAM will run them down unless they quickly notch/multipath but they will be capable of just outrunning my R-77.
As an aside though, the slower speed of the R-77 means that they spend a bit more time in transit between launch and attempted kill, which just gives the universe more time for a blue enemy to run in front of the beam and steal the lock.
Once they add the R-77-1 things will get better for BVR, besides Gaijin’s bad modelling it’ll have more range than the current missile, until then or the improvement of FMs i’m not playing soviet/russian top tier planes lol.
Mostly the same for me. I am going to unlock and spade the Su-34 though. It will be useful in ground RB with those Kh-38s, and the GROM-2’s should help with “kill bases” dailies and special tasks. But once spaded I don’t see myself flying them in air battles under normal conditions.
I was going to play with the su34 just for the sake of larping with the funny russian smoke(grom-1) but they removed It… Imo it’ll be awesome for ground battles but those are an absolute no-no for me lol
Also, do you by chance know if people can fly the Su-27 (or MiG-29) in a user mission even if they don’t have the aircraft in game? I wouldn’t mind doing some testing, but I’ve not played the USSR’s air tree at all (and I’ve only got KB+M and Xbox controllers).
Turns out, Su-30KI was Su-27SK retrofitted with fuel probe and international navigation system for Indonesia. Then it was turned into second prototype of Su-27SM (famous white-gray 305 aircraft) and later was used for Su-27SKM programm.
I don’t understand, what about the fm can we get from these videos? We don’t know what su27 this is, and even if we did, how would we know throttle, weight of air craft, etc
An Su-27SM on 10 minutes of fuel will still behave vastly different to one with standard fuel load.
These videos are highly situational and while they give SOME indicication about an aircrafts performance there are some variables that are too hard to determine in videos, turn time being one of them as well since fuel load and removal of combat equipment makes a huge difference.
At the same time, if you load only a minute of fuel onto a Su-27SM ingame, I guarantee you that it wouldn’t be able to replicate what is seen in the video.
Has the Su-27/Su-27SM/J-11 radar gotten worse? In TWS mode, it doesn’t keep tracking a target if I turn my nose away slightly from the target? or it is a bug? MiG-29SMT is still fine tho.
