Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 3)

Luque, honestly, you’re moving the goalpost at this point

But that is not what you said.

You said that only Su-57 has protection systems. You were incorrect.

You keep jumping in half way through the discussion.
But lets do that, F-22 do you believe the F-22 is a superior aircraft to any other Gen 5?

If so the F-22 flew 2005.

the f22 is still a 90s airframe with worse avionics
and bad opertional range

iam still interested in your sources tho
since you seem to know way more about the russian defensive suits than anyone else

the typical luque cycle:

  • go into russian aircraft thread
  • make a stupid statment
  • get corrected
  • move the goalpost
  • get called out for it
  • stops repling
  • repeat in a week or two

I did and that was incorrect, Su-57 as im sure you will agree is the first Russian aircraft with a multilayered protection system.

I used the wrong launguage what I mean with a protection system is ones found on Rafale etc.
It could be argued that an RWR is a passive protection system which all Russian aircraft have

Even this as @ron_23 has just pointed out, is incorrect.

Su-35S has MAWS, RAM, LWR, and ECM pods.

Does this mean that they are comparable to something like SPECTRA or EuroDASS? I’m not sure.

Have had a look into this and I put my hands up. I have an outdated view on modern Russian aircraft.

I am looking forward to seeing more of the Su-57 and 35S when they are added

you tell me since you seem to know better than anyone else
and you still havent shown any sources

but spoiler the khibiny pods on the base Su-27 were already able to automatically jam stuff

even the SPS-141 used on the likes of the Mig-21 and Su-17 are working automatically
you could select what type of jamming you wanted on a 3 way switch and thats it
and even then that selection was overwritten when iluminated by certain monopulse radars

It’s going in the right direction though, being able to admit a mistake is quite admirable these days.

What do we count as “multi-layered”? How many layers do we need for such classification?

This is a good question, since if you really wanna be picky, even old Su-27S had Multi-Layered Systems.

Khibiny + SPO-15 + Flares/Chaff.

That is technically multiple layers.

Even without Khibiny, it’s still multiple, but RWR and CMs are like… the bare minimum lmao.

Anything with RWR+Countermeasures is multi-layered by definition. First layer is detection and warning - RWR, LWS, MAW. Second layer is Passive Countermeasures - flare and chaff dispencers, towed decoys. And third layer would be active countermeasures - Jammers and other EW suite, DIRCM of any kind.

There is certainly a spectrum, but to say the Su-57 is the first Russian aircraft to utilize a complete self defense suite is kind of silly. By that same token the F-22 does not have a full self defense suite and the F-35 was the first… absurd comments.

Could have said the Su-57 was the first with a full defensive suite comparable to something like the Rafale’s, but to compare it against EuroDass is a little rude to the Su-57, no? EuroDass is just… well, it rhymes with dass. There is a reason it is currently scheduled to be completely replaced already whereas the U.S. and France is still utilizing systems put into service as much as 10-15 years prior and have no issues with them.

I think we can all just move on from this conversation.

Su-27S uses L-005 Sorbitsya, not Khibiny.

There’s a bunch of articles online about Su-30MK2 using Zhuk-MS lol, it’s incredible the levels of fake info is out there no matter how ridiculous…
