Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 3)

Can I see, I’m new to the Su-30 discourse and focused most of my attention on the engines

Latest batch of SM2 was still with 31FP judging by serial number on the engine nozzle

Didn’t look at all like 31FPs

MKK test bed was with regular radome. Irbis dish is smaller than N001 dish in diameter

I couldn’t care less what the platform is, Luchkin had affiliated with UAC to publish news about IAZ deliveries from 2022 to as recently as July of this year.

you still havent proven that the Su-30SM2 has the Irbis

issue is that the old radome might have some nasty internal reflections that would reduce the performance of the bars

red outline is Su-27S, but the Su-30SM2 has the same radome shape as it
black outline is Su-35S

The conversation’s been had countless times, if the primary news outlet of the guys producing it stating that they have an upgraded radar over the Bars-R isn’t enough then you aren’t worth hand-holding.

upgarded radar dosent mean it is an IRBIS

that is not so hard to understand and you have yet to expalin any of this:

And why does it have to irbis tho? Upgraded over is incredibly vague

Wouldn’t be possible to do such, as no iteration of Bars can fit inside of a Mech’s radome.

Solely on the fact that the limitations of the BARS kinda defeat the point of the R-37M

which explain why they installed Data link antena on the plane

it cant

the chief designer said that they upgraded the range of the radar by “nearly 2 times”

so lets just go with double the range,

the Bars has up to 150km range

Spoiler

150km times two is 300km

the Irbis has 350 to 400km range

Spoiler

Never had N035, in fact the latest video for the delivery of Su-30SM2 was in november where you could explicitly see the horizontal scan limits matching the bars, NOT irbis.

Regarding Al-41f1s there is some evidence that it was tested earlier this years on the sm2s but i dont think so it has found its way into service yet

So from what it sounds like one side is claiming that its Irbis based off the lone fact that it was improved, while the other side says its an upgraded bars off of the fact that there apics with bars in sm2s and horizontal scanlines

thx for bringing up the video link

± 40, same electronic scan as bars

Could be, but my point was that radome change or redesign isn’t necessary to fit Irbis inside. This is the reason why it was offered Im Su-27SM2 package after all.

sadly this diagram is flawed as far as i know but like its dead easy to infer than Su-35 with irbis has no pitot tube on the nose whereas Su-30SM2 still retains it
