Kinda funny and interesting (if scales are correct) how much bigger AL-41F in comparison to it older brother AL-31F

Knowing Soviet engineers - they had more than enough of those

18 tons of thrust don’t come out of nowhere, i can imagine how much of a headache would be to fit this thing into Su-27M

I mean… isnt Izd 177 have comparable thrust, yet it the same dimensions as old AL-31F?

16 tons of afterburner, but… there is how many decades of technological advancements? And, in terms of jet engines technology, i think Russia is one of the leaders on the market

Btw guys, what would be the next gen ir missile for the Flanker (and Russia overall)? I know about every other nation but I just realized idk about Russia

R-74m2 with datalink, iog and full spherical 360 degree launch capability and 50 km range instead of 30km of r-73

Interesting, how’d that perform compared to others late gen ir missiles?

Less range than something like mica ir/ir ng, asraam but has more range than its other contemporaries like aim-9x blk2 or iris-t.

It’s also more maneuverable than something like asraam but less maneuverable than iris-t.

Will probably be third best ir missile in the game below mica-ir and asraam.

I read about this missile and it doesnt have what the West would consider an IIR seeker arrangement?

More like engine melts rather than ripping itself.

Intentional design feature.

Forget about the Trash 25, MIG-31 is the real deal.

That’s common misconception. There is no real evidence of this happening, outside of a single case. Moreover, recon MiG-25 in Syria conducted prolonged flights at speeds above mach 3 with zero problems with engines.

Yeah it’s functionally the same seekerhead as r74m/non imaging.
But iir missiles in game function like this kind of missile already so it’s not gonna matter

More like thats what made 25 even more famous in both good and bad way.

I suspect it was a potential issue on first batch that was fixed later.

Russia successfully tested IIR seekerhead for “short range air to air missile” in 2022. There is a non-zero chance that domestic R-74Ms are produced with IIR seekers.

First MiGs had engines literally taken from rejected cruise missile, so they had comically small service life. Upgraded MiG-25PDs however had modified version of this engine with a bit more thrust and drastic increase of service life

Considering no one’s gonna use ır missile above 10km’s it will be be below ırıs-t in terms of practical use.

Lets be honest Gaijin will not model those long range ir missiles as powerful as they are compare to irl specs for the sake of gameplay balance, unless they add AWAC systems, radar early warning and datalink systems.

Most likely that caused the famous incident in the first place.

I believe Russia has given the R27ET a more modern seeker.
but a IR R77M is badass
