First MiGs had engines literally taken from rejected cruise missile, so they had comically small service life. Upgraded MiG-25PDs however had modified version of this engine with a bit more thrust and drastic increase of service life
Considering no one’s gonna use ır missile above 10km’s it will be be below ırıs-t in terms of practical use.
Lets be honest Gaijin will not model those long range ir missiles as powerful as they are compare to irl specs for the sake of gameplay balance, unless they add AWAC systems, radar early warning and datalink systems.
Most likely that caused the famous incident in the first place.
I believe Russia has given the R27ET a more modern seeker.
but a IR R77M is badass
MICA IR hurtling towards you 30 km away:
how exactly will AWACS help you against IIR missiles?
It will help you not get into the range of IIR missile for as long as possible. Also it could show missiles that are flying towards you so you could employ evasive maneuvers instead of catching stealthy fox-2 with your cockpit. But that’s just theory, it will depend on the implementation
Most of them have datalink and/or LOAL capability, so they can be launched without an IR lock on you (e.g., MICA IR, upgraded MICA NG IR) so good luck on not getting in range.
Aircraft radars already show missiles (if you’re head-on or mostly so) and most top tier aircraft have (or will have) MAWS, so problem solved? You’ve nothing to worry about, just assume it’s (a) an incoming radar missile, (b) a friendly firing a missile or (c) an actual IR missile headed for you.
Fun. Times. Ahead.
I can reliably not get into the range of Fox-3s, so i probably can reliably not get into range of Fox-2s, as long as i have situational awareness (in which AWACS will be a tremendous help).
AWACS will help you to see them regardless of your position or your radar angle. Again, huge help when it comes to situational awareness.
Indeed they are. Knowing gaijin, it will be unbalanced as hell (tho leaning towards OP or more than useless, i do not know)
Plus if we get AWACS we have more uses for funny missiles like KS-172 (if they decide to add that (gaijin pls)) or R-37M.
Plus it would give the F-14s something to do.
F-14 and MiG-31 players on their way to make life of enemy team absolutely miserable (they will contribute nothing else to the game and die to a first Fox-3 fired at them)
Tomcats will do Tomcat things. Nothing ever changes.
Their goals are beyond your comprehension
A-12 series could go faster than the MiG for orders of magnitude longer and over a much greater distance.
Absolute top speed of MiG-25 is not known because if becomes unstable above mach 3 and was never pushed further. Same with overload limits, airframe limit tests weren’t a thing in USSR at that time, MiG-25 was just tested for PVO specs of 4.5-5Gs and not pushed further. In terms of range - sure, an unarmed scout plane will have significantly more range than an armed interceptor. Although MiG-31 fixed that problem with mid-air refueling.
what about the recon MiG-25’s lol
so its top speed is slightly above mach 3 then since it obviously stops working very well past that
Me when a recon aircraft made out of interceptor airframe has similar characteristics to said interceptor. Wild concept.
It doesn’t “stops working very well”, USSR was hypercautious when it came to manuals. For example, it was completely forbidden to reach 16 degrees AOA on MiG-23MLD despite it being capable to reach 24-26.
thats why they usually flew it at mach 2.83, the highest recorded speed was 3.2 afaik. and other countries flew them as well so you can’t just say it was because of soviet caution. not to mention, they had the purpose made record breaker E-266M that never went past 3.2.
the limiting factor for the SR-71 was engine temperature, I could also argue it could go faster than the mach 3.3 official record and mach 3.5 statements from pilots evading missiles
Some pilots also stated that it could went beyond Mach 3.5, nevertheless we will never know the exact top speed for blackbird but one thing for sure it was faster than any manned jet that was out there.
Why would someone made a very specific version of the aircraft for records, instead of using the one that will go into the military? Surely not to conceal capabilities of Military version, right?
