Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 2)

SM3 doesn’t get dual racks, only Su-35S has been seen with dual racks IRL.

However, since the Su-27SM we have in game has dual racks, it brings it’s total missile count up to that of the SM3.

(The SM3 has an extra pylon on the wing like the Su-30SM)

Double rack is a funny thing. Work on it was done as far back as Su-27M development, but in service it was only seen on Su-35S… SM3 however should have additional wing pylons like on Su-30SM.

Could just give the existing SM those features and call it SM3.

MB on that. Could also just give it the extra pylons with dual racks to boost it at 14.0.

With gaijin BSing their way into Irbis on Su-30SM2 we could aslo give it to 27SM3 because some rumors say that only first 12 SM3s were equipped with N001 (they were made out of unused airframes of Su-27SKM) and the later ones recieved N035

With photos of MKK with R-77-1 we can technically slap it at 14.3 with Irbis

Actually no issue with that. I mean ‘technically they are compatible’ right?

On a note of how even the smallest changes might impact an airframe. Increasing the amount of countermeasures led to the increased size of tail fin on Su-27. This, in return, reduced effective thrust and reduced flight distance on cruising speed by around 87 kilometers. To compensate this fuel tanks had to be filled with additional 200kg of fuel. Alternative was offered by brigade 100-3 with reduced fuel tank in the tail and placement of CM dispencers there. Flight range would be reduced by about the same distance, but the weight would also be reduced by 200kg

Thick and thin fin in comparison

But then there would be no 13.7 Flanker though…

hear me out, Su-27S to 13.7. R-27ER op pls nerf and Flankers are “certified baby plane flight model” so we can just put it there

Su-27S? Do you mean the one named Su-27 in-game (but in fact a Su-27S) or do you mean SM but made a typo?

Yeah, i mean the regular old Su-27

Eh idk, would mean no early Su-27 as a counterpart to F-15A, I feel like it’s weird

I am just joking. In a world of not lazy War Thunder dev team we would’ve had Su-27M somewhere between SM and SM3, but…

Btw what BR would Flanker-E even get? I really don’t know how it compares to the others

Depends on what airframe gaijin would take as a basis, but the best version should be no less than 14.0
It’s basically a slightly heavier Su-30SM without TVC and limited to R-77 only

tbh what i would like to see is:

make the current Su-27SM in to the Su-27SM3 and drop it at 14.0

add an normal/early Su-27SM at 13.7 similar to the one we had on release of seek and destroy

would be ok in my opinion since the current SM and J-11B are borderline 14.0 territory

i think Su-27M with ungimballed Bars would be a better 13.7 than original version of SM that we had
