Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 2)

Looks like someone at Gaijin themself did :/

I don’t know quite what’s wrong with it.

But it just doesn’t feel right.

It’s like an F-4C but it can do a cobra.

Still it’s a heavy boi, so the fact it feels a bit like a brick can be understandable.

Yet Su-33 doesn’t compress so it’s weird

Too much drag, not enough lift

Those are the main problem with it.

So like every other flanker…

I mean yeah the 30SM is a H E A V Y boi, but still, those wings, canards, and every other maneuvering bit is MASSIVE, so I’m surprised it’s so sluggish. Not to mention the modern FBW.

Plus they got the ingame model wrong, so I’m not surprised if the flight model is screwed up too.

Yea the fm is basically the same for every flanker, only thing that varies is the weight and thrust

The Su-35 has MAWS correct? If so where are the sensors for it?

Here, I think

Is the missile detection range known? Like at which distance it will start to warn about a launch.

Here’s what I found, Not sure how accurate it is since it was left in the comments of the article:

“has 4 SOAR /IR MAWS modules and 2 LWD SOLO modules. SOAR detectors can detect incoming SAM/bigger A2A missile from 50kms,smaller A2A from 30kms and MANPADS missile from 10kms. SOLO detector can register laser beam sent from 30kms. All modules are for full spherical coverage.”

I was trying to find some info on it in my su35 book, but the best I could find is just a mention of it in the overall explanation of the ECM modules, sadly no specific data.

I mean tbf with how new the Su-35S is it’s probably classified or something of the sort.

Would it be wrong to assume they’re at least of similar quality to the mig 29m maws? So, 50 km missile launch detection, 5km actual tracking?

It’s probably a lot better, considering the Su-35S is much newer than the MiG-29M

is the su-30sm hms overperforming? currrently it’s able to go all the way -45 degrees down instead of -35, ill throw up a report if this is accurate. also, this doesn’t mention hms for radar, only ir. was doing research on the su-35s and came across this

@ron_23 Pinging you here because I wanted to ask another question about the SM3 and not fill the F-14 Thread.

Can’t the SM3 also carry R-77-1s and not just the R-77?

Yes afaik

So, the Su-27SM is trying to be the SM3 by using the same engine (trialed on SM1s, so fair enough)
The same number of missiles

But it doesn’t have the right missile layout (SM3 doesn’t have dual pylons but has an extra wing hardpoint)
And it doesn’t have the same missiles as the SM3

… how odd.
