R-73 was actually test fired from Yak-141 iirc. R-77 was not and didn’t exist yet. Sure 141 radar can guide it after software update (Dunno if F-20 radar can do something similar, as i said, AMRAAM itself didn’t even exist at that time).
Iırc on F-20 thread it was explained that F-20 was capable of firing AMRAAMs and even prototype was intended to carry it.
In fact someone made a comment about with official flight manual long ago.

How’s the Su-27SM nowadays? I have already grinded the entire soviet tech tree and mainly playing Su-27 / SMT / 141 for fun. It looks great at 13.7 although radar looks same as Su-27(ass) and no R-77-1s. Or is it better to unlock J-11s and spade them instead?

just use j-11a, 2 less radar missiles but a whole ass .3 br lower. IMO much worth it
But su-27sm is still probably top 3 best 13.7s (imo best 13.7)

Just done spading J10A and I’ve been researching J11 for last couple days, i was planning to skip the A, now checked the A model , looks similar to SM. No PL-12s, same loadout with less missiles. Wouldn’t 11B a better vehicle to spade over A? almost every game i play between 12.7-13.3 is uptiered to 13.7 14.0 anyways. with B at least radar is (supposedly) better and RWR coverage is also improved over SPO 150.
I would have spaded 27Sm long time ago but Compared to other 13.7s (such as F15C, 1F6C , J10A) it falls short on every metric (at least on paper).
It also has a worse radar (less data link channels), worse engines, and worse RWR, but it gets MAWS.
The J-11B is a big upgrade, it gets a better radar (Copy paste from F-15E), better engines, and a lighter airframe, PL-12s and PL-8Bs along with a better RWR.
It’s gotten alot better recently, R-77s are some of the best missiles in the game within 15km (MICAs and R-77-1s are still better), and with the upgraded engines and fixed flight model, the Flankers, and the SM in specific, have pretty solid flight performance.
The big downside is the radar, but if you use TWS HDN it’s alot better, as opposed to the basic TWS. Unfortunately your competition will still most likely have better radars.
