Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 2)

i mean the target is also going around 700 kph

Tbf, I did just showcase that they modeled the R-77 and R-77-1 based off of export range figures. In fact, Gaijin was already caught referring to Russian missiles by their export names in the form of RVV-MD.

the RVV-BD is not a R-37M

as pointed out by kizvy

its possible that it is ‘only’ 200km due to international laws on exports on long range missiles as some ppl have said

Is rvv-bd similar to r-37m like rvv-ae is to r-77?

I’m pretty sure this is about cruise missile and only for those having a big enough warhead.

The question then is, what is stopping them from still using RVV-BD figures even if the model is externally different?

RVV-BD has a 60kg warhead

which i would consider as a big warhead

becasue it is clearly not the same missile

why would the r-37m have less range than they achived with the base r-37

maybe the goal was the get more speed and g load ?

why would you want a higher g-load on a missile thats designed to shoot down AWACS

to be able track agains faster when lose lock ?

I don’t think it is for the goal of the international law, and well, it’s about preventing a customer from replacing the conventionnal warhead with a nuclear one which would be a problem so 60kg isn’t much.

thats not what g-load does at all

luckily we are out of the phase of the cold war where everything had to carry a nuclear warhead

like torpedos, seamines and so on

well its one of the important factors when you make a new missile

I need to reiterate, nothing is preventing this missile from doing 300km (RVV-BD configured for 200km modeled using what has been used already for other missiles). 200km is a in a specific condition where it is launched at relatively low speeds. It could likely blow past 300km+ when launched from a Mig-31 for instance.

Unlikely unless they could fix the aircraft carrier anytime soon. I would have thought the upgrade is a simple one given all the kit is already readily available.

Tbh they could also just convert them to operate from land based like how the navy already operates the Su-30SMs, would probably shed some weight as well if they remove all the carrier stuff

issue is why? They still gotta reserve them, since the carrier is still there and they do want it back, just not necessarily realistic.
