Also problem isn’t the notching its the reaction time when fakours appears on your RWR screen, due to some interesting choices from Gaijin they don’t give you radar warning until they are in 8-10km range which is a very narrow window if you’re at high altitude with heavy fighter (like Su-27-30).
Tomcat still holds the Fox-3 advantage over Su-27/33 and range advantage over premium Su-30’s with fakours.
Now sure ER’s are great but if Tomcat player is little bit smart he can easily go cold while forcing you to notch with those Fakours.
Some of the smart Tomcat players did this to me, eventually they died to my second ER tho due experience differences.
But in order to kill them from 40-50km range you need to get into high altitude and achieve high speed before launching those ER’s which can put you in disadvantage position sometimes.
Fakours were strong but not to players who know how to notch a 120 or an ARHM. Which the majority at that BR kind of do. Yes you can grab the sleeping player but you can do the same at top tier with a 40km 120 shot.
It is not indicative of a good missile. Now the F-14IR had a troubled start it was facing jets that were beneath it with a missile that was hard to defeat. A high flying F-4 was never going to be able to notch it while an F/A-18 and Su-27 can easily get into that notch angle removing the threat posed by that missile.
I refute that an F-14B beats a Su-27 in BVR for the reason well the Su-27 has the R-27ER and if a MiG 29 with the R-27ER was dominating F-14s, Tornados and Phantoms then the Su-27 is a massive upgrade over the 29.
The F-14B has 9Ls which are all aspect and a 7M which brings more to the level of competitors (I don’t have the F-14B)
Su-33 is excellent though the amount of missiles the flight performance I mush prefer it to my IR F-14
When I said it can beat Su-27 I wasn’t trying to say it can kill Su-27 easily.
What I’m actually trying to say is due to having much better Radar,RWR and Fox-3’s F-14B can simply force Su-27 go notch or low while flying straight into the battle zone, or better yet it can simply spam Phoenix missiles and can easily survive against ER’s due to having digital modern RWR.
It should have got that 9M’s long ago. As for the sparrows it can get 7P’s as well.
Even tho I haven’t finished Su-33 I also prefer it over Iranian Tomcat.
My favourite way to haunt the F-14’s is with ET’s haha, they are as hot as a nuclear reactor and sometimes the ET’s still track them even while they drop flares. (Kinda like the F-15’s)
This is such a weird feeling, to not have an aircraft without any glaring weaknesses. You constantly have to compensate for something, be it missile count, radar being the worst, having analogue RWR or having engines that can barely lift your massive titanium balls missiles… But SM2 just does everything well enough while excelling in several parameters.
