They can and that method would work on any IR missile.
Still in the merge the Su-30 will be unsurpassed.
? Su-27SM is much better in dogfight but quite a bit worse in high altitude speed and climb, and Su-30SM is like 2 tons heavier if memory serves me well.
This is why it will be the best flight model for BVR in the game apart from the F-22 and maybe in certain situations the MiG-31.
Which is largely irrelevant. Gripen was the best dogfighter until this update, but it was hardly the best plane since we got fox-3s.
If it gets fixed it will be absolutely fine, and even now it’s not an huge handicap.
You described the Su-30SM very well here, will probably be a missile truck with a good radar and a good first turn.
Isn’t the su27’s empty weight 16,000kg?
my point was, since most planes have a great amount of cms, you only need to have 2 neurons to avoid dying to an r73, energy fighters are currently doing better, maybe that changes when we got r73m or better versions of it
It’s really bad, ghost returns and the inability to reliably change targets. I have so many teamkills from the Radar deciding to lock a friendly :(
It’s over a tonn of difference, plus it has likely worse drag since the cockpit is a lot bigger.
Not while we have multipathing, the R-73 like the Aim9M will continue to be vital
what? what MP has to do with IR missiles and pre flaring my g?
It’s in the same boat as all slow scanning radars (among them there’s also the Su-27’s radar). If radar pattern scan gets fixed it will be more than fine, since it’s actually very good at picking up stuff, it’s the tws that is terrible.
Guys honestly, new year’s eve and we are spending it on forum?
what about canards?
Sm is a bit heavier
Yeah i forgot about the cockpit, It might feel like the current su-33, it would be worse if it didn’t have improved engines
well, I’m really looking forward to the su30sm.
actually I have another question, will there be any sukhoi that will have full rwr coverage? the su27sm has blind spots 90 degrees up and down, will we still face this -problem- in the future with like su35s?
At normal takeoff weight, the Su-30 will be better…
Su-35s Should have same TWR that a Typhoon. With “Normal takeoff” maybe a bit worse but its about how much fuel the Su-35s carry in the “Normal takeoff” (it can carry A LOT). Also pretty sure Butowsky info about Empty weight of the Su-35s its just wrong. There is no way that the Su-35s weight more than a Su-33. Not when Su-30 is around 17tons.
If we got with this page. StatShark - FM Calculator. Su-30sm should be 1ton heavy than the Su-27sm in game.
Seems pretty light when you consider the additonal weight:
Larger Canopy
Canards
Additional Canard control systems and redundancies
Additional crew
Flight journal claims 40,565 lbs or 18,400 kg
Avio news claims 17,200 kg
Sukhoi’s website has a PDF and they directly state the following;
Maximum fuel capacity for internal tanks is 11,500 kg. The normal takeoff weight with 2x R-77 (175kg x2) and 2x R-73 (105kg x 2) is 25,300kg.
25,300 - (175 x 2) - (105 x 2) = 24,740 kg.
Assuming “normal” takeoff weight is 50% fuel, that would imply 1/2 of 11,500 kg can be subtracted from the mass. This leaves 18,990 kg empty mass but that seems too high.
Assuming a fraction of 60% internal fuel we can take 0.6 * 11,500 for a empty mass of 17,840kg which is far more likely.
If the empty mass is 17,840kg the empty T/W in static conditions is approximately 1.62 based on a total static thrust of 14,500 kgf per engine (as stated above by Sukhoi).
With the normal takeoff weight (no armament) and what appears to be a 60% fuel fraction the thrust to weight is 1.17.
With normal takeoff weight and 10x R-77, 2x R-73 the mass climbs to 26,700 kg and the T/W is reduced to 1.09.
The three measurements for the Typhoon leave it around ~1.67 empty, ~1.36 on 50% fuel, and with a full load of missiles (6x AIM-120 and 2x AIM-9) on 50% weight the EFT has a T/W of ~1.26
Doesn’t’ gaijin Add the Emergency thrust on the Russian engine? Or that was a one time thing for mig21?
