The Su-30MK2 is a 4+ generation multi role fighter made by Sukhoi and is formerly in use with the Peoples liberation army naval air force (PLANAF) until 2024 and is currently in use with the Peoples liberation army air force (PLAAF), The aircraft is a further development of the Su-30MK family of fighters with the MK2 model having been customized to meet the requirements of the navy, when compared to the earlier MKK that was used by the regular air force with upgrades to its fire control system giving it anti ship missile capability and upgrades to its radar with new processor units being installed, notably the MK2 has also received integration of domestic weapons such as the PL-12 and PL-8B.

After adopting the Su-30MKK an request from the PLAAF would be sent out to further develop the Su-30MKK fire control system, Sukhoi would modify the fire control giving it the ability to use the Kh-31A anti ship missile making it maritime strike capable. Other changes includes upgrades to the N001VE radar from the MKK with an new Baghet signal processor and re designating it the Sh-101VEP or N001VEP. With the new fighter being designated the Su-30MK2, and it being intended for the Peoples liberation army naval air force (PLANAF). In january 2003 the PLANAF would sign a contract agreeing to purchase 24 new Su-30MK2s after seeing the success of the earlier Su-30MKK purchased. with Knaapo starting delivery’s in February 2004 of the new Su-30MK2 model and all delivery’s being completed by August 2004, The MK2 would be deployed to serve as long range interceptors over the east China sea. And being used as long range escorts for the H-6K bombers in the western pacific as well as in the South China sea and sea of Japan. The SU-30MK2 would continue serving this role for the PLANAF as an long range escort and interceptor until 2024 with all Su-30MK2s being transfered over to the Peoples liberation army air force (PLAAF)
