Currently ldircm completely counter imaging seeker heads (see aim 9x blk 2 being completely countered by mi28 and z10me)
hopefully this will be fixed as they should resort to their DL in that case
LDIRCM sure but with 9X block 2 it should be able to resort to DL if there is a radar lock
DL would be a neat feature, don’t know entire specifics of it though.
DL is not percise enough to guid in a missile fully, thats why missiles have DL only as a secondary guidance type and not as a primary one
As much as I love Berkut (to the point of having scale model of it)… it chances to appear are extremely slim
Isn’t it just sending the target information gained from another source like the radar to the missile? Maybe on really old ones but modern DL can do precision work just fine
Personally I’m more surprised inertial navigation doesn’t make it hit the target, feel like for helicopters ins should be extremely strong just because how slow they are. Planes it makes sense ins not working as well, but slow as hell helicopters?
it cant, if it could we would see missiles that only use DL instead of expensive IIR or aesa seekers
Fire and forget, there are surely other reasons why they keep seekers on missiles
Okay seems like you need 0 flares for su-57 if gaijin keeps the current implementation for ldircm… however if they don’t add ecm, 40ish cms is fatale, with most 5th gens of all nations carrying 10+ radar missiles, you’re gonna need a lot more chaff. F-22 especially that thing carries a ridiculous amount of missiles, most missiles of any 5th gen
you yoursef dont need a lock on the target
you can have ground radars or AWACS guide it in
becuase DL is not perciese enough, if it was they would have atleast tried to make a DL only missile
What do you think they are going to do with CCA’s launching missiles? It’s already been proven that guided munitions can successfully use datalink
It can use datalink but it probably isn’t accurate. Datalink doesn’t seem to be something you use as a primary guidance system but something the weapon falls back onto as a last ditch effort.
so a SAM missile has DL as a guidance option wow
and how does that cange anything?
you just said: “but this missile has DL”
that isnt disproving anything
DL has a delay due to the nature of how it works
you need some radar to send out radiation and wait for it to bounce back
then you need to send that information to your missile
and if your missile is close to your radar target it will recieve the target position from the last radar scan
which is not where the target currently is
It’s literally the speed of light, and with -ESA any delay is very minimal
If you (or anyone else) don’t mind explaining/summarising, since I’m not deeply familiar with modern technology, what is the RCS of the Su-57 compared to other stealth fighters? (On a serious note)
And how do its radar systems and overall combat capabilities compare to those of its competitor stealth aircraft?
I swear its secret documents were leaked sometime ago already, or was it fake news?
as always it depends on the radar band and the aspect
in general the Su-57 should have a way higher combat radius than the F-22
the F-22 might have really powerful engines but they are awfully inefficent
the ammount of weapons they can carry should be about the same (tho iam not too sure about how much stuff the raptor can carry externally)
internally the raptor has 2 more radar missiles if the Felon only carries 4 r-77M’s internally (i have seen ppl claiming it is able to carry 6 internally tho and then it would be equal)
flight performance wise the Raptor should be great at BVR with its high speed and lots of thrust but in a direct dogfight it might not be as good (similar to the F-15E lots of thrust but really heavy)
on the other side i would expect the Felon to do worse at BVR (against other 5th gens) than the Raptor
against anything that isnt stealth it should do great due to it being able to carry the R-37M
(a big af missile with lots of range ~200-300km when launched from Su-35)
the Su-57 loses a bit of performance at long range engagements but is better for closer ranges (anything under ~100km) and should do better especially in 1 on 1 dogfights due to the following points
- large wing area (lots of lift)
- unobstructed air intakes (low channel loss)
- 3D thrust vectoring
- a LDIRCM system to defeat IR missiles (similar to the Mi-28MN ingame currently)
i dont know to much about the radars on both the Raptor and Felon but the predecessor of the Su-57 radar, the IRBIS-E, is claimed to be able to detect a target with the Raports RCS at around 80km
but the to me it is quite interesting that the Su-57 has more or less 360° radar coverage
TLDR:
the Felon will most likely be better at the ranges relevant in war thunder due too how small the maps are
not on any stealth aircraft
the last leak was a Harrier manual
