Suggestion to lower BR of lkv 91-105

I’d like to bring up the lkv 91-105 currently sitting at 9.0 BR. In my opinion, that’s too high for what the vehicle actually offers. It has zero armor it gets one-shot by literally everything, even aircraft cannons or close HE splashes. At this BR, and especially when uptiered to 9.7-10.0, it’s totally outclassed. Enemies have thermals, ATGMs, better armor, and much more effective guns.

Mobility-wise, it’s actually one of the slowest light tanks in the game, even most medium tanks easily outrun it. It accelerates poorly, and the reverse speed is terrible, making repositioning or escaping extremely difficult. That completely undermines its already fragile survivability and makes flanking extremely risky.

To make things worse, it shares the same BR as vehicles like the TAM, which completely outclasses it in nearly every aspect - mobility, firepower, versatility and better optics zoom. Putting these two on the same rating doesn’t make much sense from a balance perspective.

The lkv 91-105 doesn’t carry matches, doesn’t threaten much, and dies easily. Even at 8.7 it wouldn’t be overpowered just more reasonable to play. Honestly, 8.3 would be a better fit for what the vehicle can actually do.

Please consider lowering its BR to at least 8.7. Right now, it clearly doesn’t belong at 9.0

Nah, what? If there was a BR between 9.0 and 9.3 it should go there, but definitely not down.

Its fine at 9.0, doesn’t need lowering

Comparing it to a blantant undertiered vehicle is not, at least for me, a way to base a reason for lowering it in battle rating. Instead of provoking more debalanced discussion, promote changes that can affect vehicles that people is ignoring and still at a very low battle rating.

For reference, the ZTZ59D1 — it can faces either battle rating 9.3 vehicles aswell battle rating 7.3 vehicles, this should be a topic of concern not to mention other few spare souls Gaijin always tend to left behind.

Soooooooo, While the Ikv 91-105 is undoubtedly fragile and challenging to use effectively, its placement at 9.0 BR is not entirely unjustified when viewed in the broader context of War Thunder’s balancing mechanics.

First, the vehicle’s primary strength lies in its highly accurate 105mm gun, equipped with the good APFSDS rounds—capable of frontally penetrating many opponents even at higher BRs. This level of firepower gives it a strong offensive presence when used from a distance or in coordinated support roles. Its rapid reload and solid ballistics make it a reliable and consistent threat, especially against less-aware targets.

However, it’s important to acknowledge that the vehicle’s -7 degrees of gun depression is relatively mediocre, especially for a vehicle that would ideally capitalize on hull-down positioning. Compared to vehicles like the TAM or Centauro, which often enjoy better depression angles and lower profiles, the Ikv 91-105 is more limited in using uneven terrain effectively—particularly on hilly or ridge-dominated maps.

Regarding survivability, it is true that the Ikv 91-105 is extremely vulnerable to all forms of return fire. Yet, this vulnerability is partly mitigated in-game by incomplete internal modeling. Like the Pbv 302, the current damage model doesn’t accurately reflect internal compartments, This decreases survivability.

Mobility-wise, eeeh, while the Ikv 91-105 is not as fast as other light tanks like the TAM or Type 16, it’s still mobile enough to reposition and flank in the hands of experienced players. It trades raw speed for better gun handling on the move and a smoother ride, both of which can be valuable in dynamic battlefield conditions.

Its wild, man this tank really doesn’t deserve 9.0. It has no real advantages. No armor, no thermals, no mobility, no survivability — just a decent gun that every other tank already has at this BR or lower. Putting it at the same BR as something like the TAM, which is better in literally every possible way, is just nonsense. And its almost always in full uptiers, constantly fighting 10.0 where it stands no chance at all.

Comparing it to arguably the most OP tank at the BR isn’t really a good argument.

I mean, the TAM is basically its direct competitor. They’re both light tanks, both at 9.0, and they literally fight each other in almost every match. There aren’t many other light tanks at this BR to compare it with - what else should I use for comparison, an MBT like the KPz-70? That wouldn’t make sense either.

So yeah, TAM is strong, but that just shows how badly the lkv 91-105 is performing when it has to go up against stuff like that. If they’re on the same BR, they should be somewhat comparable and right now, they’re not even close.

Basically any MBT besides the Russian ones are glorified light tanks at 9.0, though.

TAM is very much not a competitor, 2S25M would be closer. or the SK-105A2.

The TAM i feel is more on-par with the Strf 9040C because of the added armour of the TAM, if you come from the TAM expecting the same gameplay im sorry very sorry to inform they arent even near each other in performance.

The TAM has always been extremely meta at its BR, the Ikv 90-105 however. Is just decent. nothing more, nothing less. its a light tanks on a relatively mobile chassis with a good gun.

Ergo; it works at its br, and will do fine if used within the onion of survivability. don’t be seen, snipe and flank behind cover and remain out of sight and out of mind. That’s how you succeed, you will die if you get seen as any light tank. most of the time, unless your hull is a vacuum like in the Wheeled SPGs

Ehh, I don’t really think so. 2S25M is a modern vehicle that’s still in active service and sits at a much higher BR for a reason it has thermals, way better mobility, and a 125mm gun with insane penetration. It’s just not a fair comparison. As for the SK-105A2 it’s a tiny, fast vehicle with thermal sights and an autoloader that fires every 4 seconds, while the lkv 91-105 takes 7 seconds even with an ace crew. Its performance and playstyle are on a whole different level. The lkv 91-105, on the other hand, has none of that. It’s sluggish, lacks thermals, has no special survivability, and nothing that really gives it an edge. If anything, it just feels like a worse version of those tanks, yet it’s placed way too high on the BR scale.

With that logic, any tank can “work” if you just sit on the edge of the map and snipe without being seen. That doesn’t mean it deserves the BR it has. A tank should be rated not just by how well it does when everything goes perfectly, but how it performs in normal conditions close fights, urban maps, or when you do get spotted. And in those situations, the Ikv just falls apart. It has nothing to fall back on. Also, the TAM can actually take a hit every now and then thanks to its front-mounted engine, which absorbs a lot of incoming damage and the Ikv doesn’t have anything like that. He just die

The Ikv 91-105 and TAM aren’t comparable. The TAM has thermals, a stabilizer, better mobility, and can take hits. The Ikv can’t. Once it’s seen, it’s gone. They might both be light tanks, but they serve different roles.

The Ikv plays more like a BMP-1 with a better gun—no armor, poor mobility, and only works by staying hidden. That’s not a gimmick, it’s the only way it survives.

It’s not a great tank, but it’s not useless either. It has tools like commander sights and drones that help it stay relevant. Dropping it too low, like near the original Ikv 91, wouldn’t make sense. It’s flawed, but at its current BR it can still do its job when played right.

So yes any tank can “work” if you just sit on the edge of the map and snipe without being seen. That is the whole premise the Ikv 91-105. Its more of a tank destroyer than a true light tank because it lacks the speed, agility, and scouting tools typical of light tanks. Instead, it relies entirely on its powerful gun, decent optics, and stealthy positioning to ambush enemies. It can’t brawl, spot, or flank effectively—its role is to sit back and take out targets from a distance, just like a classic tank destroyer. If you play it like the original Ikv 91 you know the Ikv 91 also heavily relies upon its gun

So, for me i just think that it works at its br for the purpose of taking out tanks, just dont put yourself in the brawl. and you will do pretty decently well,

In summary, both the Ikv 91 and Ikv 91-105 have crap survivability and armour being able to get 50* cal’d frontally, you dont brawl with them, you play as a TD

I’m not denying that the TAM is much better that’s exactly the point. Despite being far superior in almost every aspect, the TAM and the Ikv 91-105 sit at the same battle rating. That’s where the problem is.

The Ikv 91-105 simply doesn’t belong at 9.0. It has no thermal sights, poor mobility, long reload, terrible reverse speed, and a very uncomfortable sight only one zoom level (10x), which is too much for close or even mid-range combat. Its survivability is practically non-existent, and its turret rotation is slow. The gun also doesn’t offer great penetration, so you often have to aim for weak spots and at long distances, that becomes a real problem.

Saying “just don’t get seen and you’ll do fine” applies to any tank. Sitting behind a rock on the edge of the map doesn’t mean the tank deserves 9.0. Any vehicle can feel okay if you limit yourself to passive sniping from safe spots, but that doesn’t make it balanced.

The Ikv 91-105 has no meaningful advantages to justify being this high in BR. It’s underpowered, lacks flexibility, and offers nothing that puts it on par with other 9.0 vehicles.

Honestly, lowering it closer to the original Ikv 91 makes a lot of sense. At the end of the day, it’s just a modification of the same platform the only real change is the gun. Everything else, including the weak armor, low survivability, and limited mobility, remains basically the same. Such a change just replacing the gun isn’t enough to warrant a full 1.0 BR jump.

And what exactly would the Ikv 91-105 offer at 8.7 or even 8.3? It’s basically just a sidegrade of the original Ikv 91 with a better gun, but in most ways, the original is stronger. The standard Ikv 91 has better mobility, a lower profile turret, and its HEAT round can be lobbed over hills more effectively.

Dropping the Ikv 105 to the same BR would make it pointless to play, since the original outperforms it in key areas. The only real reason the 105 sits at 9.0 is its APFSDS round, which is decent for that BR. Gaijin clearly placed it there expecting it to face 8.7 to 9.3 opponents.

When it gets uptiered, that’s just part of the matchmaker—it happens to everything. The real issue is BR compression in the 8.3 to 9.7 range, not the Ikv 105’s BR itself. And thankfully, Gaijin is slowly addressing that. Hopefully, this BR range is next in line for decompression.

So again, no the Ikv 91-105 isnt good. its very medieocre when it faces the current matchmaker at 8.3-9.7

Im simply saying the matchmaker needs some work, the br placement, atleast compared to the rest of the swedish TT makes sense, however as we all know the 8.3-9.7 matchmaker is very bad, and compressed with alot of things mushed togheter.
