Submarines had hours upon hours of oxygen. And batteries that lasted 12-24hrs on average.
I think that’s how subs should be added to Warthunder.
:)
I’ve been saying submarines if added should be added with active and passive sensors, plus their nuances, for ages now so this is good news imo
But we had a GREAT submarine gameplay here: Battle of Atlantic. One of the best evenets ever played.
Yeah. In WT, submarines should be able to stay submerged effectively indefinitely.
I just ask that they are not like in World of Warships, they are made in the worst possible way and are not at all realistic compared to normal ships.
The problem with subs is that they would need a new matchmaking. Matching Battleships, destroyers and sub hunters, submarines etc. together would be the best and most realistic option. That would require a new gamemode, mechanics or even br system. Battleships easily kill all other ships but are really weak against subs. But who would play sub hunters at br 6.3 for example just to get one-shot by a battleship?
I think making a reward system based on the ship you play and the ship you damaged/killed would be the best way. This would help costal boats currently aswell. If a destroyer attacks costal boast they should get much less rp and sl. No longer farming of costal boats with early destroyers.
I’d be cautious about implementing such a system without submarines to act as part of the rock paper scissors matchup. I do think the matchmaker you’ve suggested is a good idea, but I don’t think it’s absence should stop submarines from being implemented. Essentially I’m saying we should get submarines before, or at the same time as a new matchmaker.
Don’t worry; submarines will come and will be thrown onto whatever system we currently have. Missile boats, guided missile destroyers/cruisers they’ll come too and will just be thrown in to whatever passes for ‘gameplay’ in Gaijinland.
I’m really looking forward to seeing submarines progress from their earliest days, tackling challenges like managing oxygen and diesel engines, as well as dealing with their limited time underwater and restricted diving depths. Then, moving into the Cold War era and modern submarines, it’s fascinating to think about how they’ll address advanced sensor systems and increasingly sophisticated defensive and offensive weaponry.
Additionally, I’m curious about how the underwater environments in War Thunder might evolve. Considering the likely third-person perspective for players, they’d probably need to revamp underwater textures. Things like shipwrecks, netting, depth charges, canyons, seabeds, shallow-water corals, and more could play a part. Perhaps they could even visually represent different depth layers for a more immersive experience.
Submarines do not need to manage fuel or oxygen. Just like normal ships the fuel is vast and unrealistic to lose in the 6hr max time for customs. Similarly battery power and oxygen last longer than 12 to 24+hrs so unless you make submarines horrifically unrealistic (which all of us don’t want), there won’t be any of that.
Just like the submarine event, what they showed was already a great implementation, they sadly gave submarines an unrealistically low depth limit to match WW1 submarines not WW2. But there was no fuel/battery or oxygen limit which is realistic.
Hopefully they continue with that realism.
Think we’ll get ww1 Subs first then for balance at the lower br’s?
I wasn’t here for the submarine event, and this may be a little off topic, but can you jump a torpedo boat off of a submarine?
Well, torpedo boats weren’t in either of the submarine events. So it’s hard to say. But one quick question,
what?
Maybe thinking like black lagoon where they jump a torpedo boat into a helicopter?
Excuse my randomness, and my atrocious drawing (it was by finger on my phone) but this is what I was thinking, the submarine is just rising out of the water, so it acts like a ramp
Thank you for the illustration.
Given War Thunder’s collision physics, I actually think this should be possible.
When I was making my submarine lists which you’ll find posted way back up here, I think I started with like… 1916? Or otherwise interwar submarines. Again, I think I stuck to iconic or historically notable boats that could carry an ok amount of torpedoes and had a top speed (either surfaced or submerged) above 30kmh.
