Submarines - WT Discussion

Interesting with IJNs submarine variety but they also had german and Italian subs either captured or given and put into service

Im sure its similar for other nations so i wonder if we will see that or if they will stick to just domestic options

Maybe IJNs first premium could be IJN I-19 On September 15, 1942 the Imperial Japanese Navy IJN submarine I-19 fired a single salvo of six Type 95 torpedoes near Guadalcanal, resulting in one of the most destructive and fortuitous single torpedo spreads in naval history.

  • USS Wasp (CV-7): Three torpedoes struck the American aircraft carrier on its starboard beam, triggering massive aviation fuel and ammunition fires that forced the crew to abandon ship and led to its scuttling.
  • USS North Carolina (BB-55): A fourth torpedo from the same spread continued running and struck the battleship (part of a different task force) on its port side, killing five sailors and causing significant hull damage.
  • USS O’Brien (DD-415): A fifth or sixth torpedo missed an initial evasion attempt and struck the destroyer’s port bow. Though temporary repairs allowed it to travel, the structural integrity of its hull failed weeks later on October 19, 1942, causing it to sink

there’s an interesting video on it, with added context

North Carolina and O’Brien seem to have been hit by accident, as the sub commander was most likely unable to see them from his POV, which makes this encounter all the more interesting imo

Also the first post-war submarine was a (modified) US Gato-class

I believe so the ROC training sub might have continued to get some upgrades (Lithium batteries) however there would be little hope for her in the modern era.

JDS Oyashio is also a option first post WW2 domestic sub.

She used the best of Japanese submarine design theory but from what I read her bloodline comes from I-201-class submarine and Gato-class ideas.

Cool egg

I’ll just say that, out of sheer boredom this weekend, I started looking into how the developers work when it comes to something as significant as submarines.

and I can’t help but see myself this way all the time
