submarines are being worked on
without a doubt we will see subs prob this year tbh
theyve already have subs and modernISH naval on mobile
Subs have been tested twice now I think, so probably at some point.
Dunno about carriers though, no idea have that would even work.
Aircraft carriers wont have any interesting gameplay loop.
It would require massive overhaul of how aircrafts spawn in naval.
So its highly unlikely, as unfortunately in gaijins eyes the cost does not justify the number of players it would attract.
Submarines are certainly coming soon there’s been stuff datamined about them on every devserver for the last 3-4 updates. It has also just openly been stated in several communications by gaijin that they’re working on them.
I wouldn’t expect carriers any time soon, though even they have had some stuff datamined. I think the biggest hurdle for carriers is giving them a proper place in normal gameplay, rather than the technical feasability behind their mechanics.
Btw, both subjects have their own topics on the forums
Submarines - WT Discussion (where your original post just got moved to as I was writing this)
And subs are complete cancer on mobile. If they entirely rework them maybe, but if it’s even remotely similar we will most likely just have Silent Thunder back to stay
We did also have a WW2 submarine event, and it was nothing like mobile. Comparing the naval modes of the two games is pointless, as the only thing they share is the IP.
Try and look up some gameplay from the “battle of the atlantic” event. was in november 2023 I believe?
To be honest I don’t think they need to rework aircraft spawns. Spawning one aircraft is just not the same as using a carrier and sending / controlling proper squadrons to attack the enemy. At best I could see something like optionally allowing forward spawns on friendly carriers that give you a squadron of similar aircraft in exchange for spawning dangerously close to enemy air defense. But even then I’m not sure I trust Gaijin to balance it so that the carrier player won’t randomly find 10 B-29s cluttering the flight deck and unable to take off.
Still aircraft carriers are probably far off. The closest we have is floatplanes that only launch one at a time, have no combat AI at all and don’t even “reload” with other floatplanes on the ship. And aircraft AI probably needs even more work since right now (aside from singleplayer mission iirc) it’s all just based on predetermined flight and attack paths.
But who knows, maybe we’ll see some of the more heavily armed carriers just added as if they were flat cruisers.
I cannot see this being implemented in any balanced way whatsoever.
They would either be useless because AI sucks balls
Or OP because you could just rush single ship with all of your squadrons - and even with ships with powerfull AA one plane would eventually get through.
All that while aircraft carrier player is glued to the back of the map as to not expose himself.
Best to move onto (or read through) the aircraft carrier topic gents
How do we think deck guns are gonna work? Is there gonna be crew that suddenly appear when we surface or is it gonna be a ghost crew.
Prob just model it like the .50s on a lot of vehicals, ghost controlled
Could alternately have some sort of short set up time, similar to Missile TDs.
Gaijin does not test stuff for the lols even the post apocalyptic event had them test environmental features (sand physics and sand storm we have no sand storm in game yet). They also have subs on mobile so they have an idea of what they want.
True, even the ponies were a test iirc
That’s how aircraft carriers operate though. They’re high-val targets so they sit way back and let their escorts and planes do the actual fighting
Yes but i dont think gameplay loop would be interesting enough to attract sufficient number of players to justify the cost of making playable aurcraft carriwrs
Guys, stick to submarines here if possible. There is a similar topic for carriers where you’ll find a lot more interesting past conversations
And yet the forum for that has been extremely active just like this one.
