Submarines - WT Discussion

Personally I think next big thing will be subs, perhaps as soon as next update after this one. There is more sub stuff in the files and they were tested two times already.

GJ is currently pushing more modern stuff so I would say that either with adding submarines or just after that we will see more modern ships (both subs and surface), with this we will get also more modern weaponry so those ships can be at higher era than biggest BB. Tho we probably will get another batch of big BB like H-39, newer Iowa, Super Yamato or god forbid some cold war soviet Super Soyuz.

To be completely honest I’m kinda afraid that subs will have their own TT like heli’s and to grind the you will need another premium.

I do not think we will get any rework anytime soon, In fact i expect subs to have really bad gameplay loop at lower eras and possibly being OP with cruise missiles at top tier. If they get their own gamemode it will be like one for heli’s.

For really long term maybe carriers? We already have mechanics for them but balancing would be extremely difficult.

Biggest saving factor for naval would be better maps and gamemodes that allow players to play semi PVE (bots in team don’t count). Currently naval is quite boring because all battles are the same (this is a problem that plagues whole WT since GJ decided that instead of handcrafted objectives on maps we will have everywhere same generic ones).

Doubt that. Current split tree was very bad idea. Adding third tree just for naval is like adding another ground tree for SPAA.

They’re more likely to end up in the costal tree.

That’s why Gaijin will split another XD

I agree, its a bad idea but it would make more money and GJ don’t have the best track record with bad ideas.

Don’t think so. MPK-33 shows that missile ships will be split into bluewater and coastal.

There were coastal subs so if they wont get their own TT…

I would be confident subs next update if infantry testing ends soon. They will do a full update concerning the infantry trees USSR and USA in a update. Subs would be something big so they would have there own dedicated update.

As far as i heard, this whole year is to be infantry “focused” but quite soon we will get CBT just like with other new things. Tho this is more or less “trust me bro” situation.
I didn’t hear anything if subs will get CBT but i guess that depends if GJ decide that they will be in new tree.
Will infantry and subs come in same update? Not sure but its possible considering that last update was infantry themed.

It was more of infantry would be functional before Gaijin moving on to subs. My guess

In my case, I was able to play both events, and honestly, I saw the infantry as quite unfinished (with a lot of work to do). On the other hand, the Pacific War submarines were almost finished, not counting the Type 7 model, which, when cut in half, we could see wasn’t modeled. The only things they were missing, besides what we’ve seen in DS, are the thermocline, battle noise (explosions below and above the water), adjustable torpedo trajectory visual paths depending on where you want it to go, and the submarine’s actual depth rating (I know it was set to 60m on purpose for the event). I can’t think of anything else I’ve mentioned.

Do you think they would activate(un-hide) Counter-Sub Weapon stations like the RUR-4, RUR-5(ASROC) or RUM-139(VL-ASROC), To begin with or would Gaijin wait for more advanced subs?

Since I can easily foresee issues with some ships lacking ASW systems based on their service configurations as a potential phased rollout (similar to FOX-3 introduction) delays their appearance otherwise, or having an outsized impact that Subs simply couldn’t deal with since they are not contemporaneous and so lack specific counters.

Alternately we could see like the USS Douglass’s erroneous RIM-24A, where they are wrong by choice until later modeled.

I hope they model wake and trail more realistically for torpedos the difference between compressed air and pure oxygen is pretty significant in this case most IJN torps would be a bit more stealthy.

Not only that but I’m also worrying about imbalance of anti-submarine weapon between Eastern and Western, especially on coastal.

All but two(206 and Yenot) on soviet coastal tree Rank V are dedicated anti-submarine warfare ship and having more than depth charge/anti-submarine mortar while some nation doesn’t even have access to anti-submarine torpedo in their coastal tree.

RUR-4 maybe sooner as that is just advanced depth bombs but not guided. RUR-5 is top of the line system I wouldnt expect that until coldwar subs are added.

Down worry, submarine will surface to go faster, you give it full salvo of HE shells and its done.

Same as ASROC, homing torpedoes wont be added until cold war subs. At start we will have just depth bombs and hedgehogs. And main guns obviously.

The firing solution and Burst depth is based off sonar returns, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s also able to gather Closing rate info to provide proper lead, and so will guarantee hits if the target doesn’t maneuver.

The downside would be it’s got a fairly short range, and probably can’t be used against an incoming torpedo.

Think floating naval mines will come? Like how some ports have basically a minefield specifically for subs?

they should

Having given this some further thought, this might be referring to the red circle of the player 's own noise, rather than the sonar return of others. It 's probably fine for that to stay on the minimap display, in this early time where detectible noise radius is universal across all ships and only relating to their throttle setting.
