Submarines - WT Discussion

Might be a longshot here, any guesses on the vessel shown in the background of the torpedo lines, my guess a Japanese cruiser.

But yeah, this might be the working towards submarines as it would be helpful to track torpedoes from such boats.

Been waiting for something like this finally

It does look Japanese. Wild if it’s Kitakami

Looking at it again, it looks like the front of HMS Grafton or Valhalla

that turret platform does look very british

In my main comment on the main post, I thought it was a Japanese cruiser due to the:

• deck colour, & how the wood changes to grey metal at the stern

• superfiring guns with tripod mast forwards an possible funnel

• stern has a crane on it.

I don’t think it’s a British destroyer a Valhalla has a different colour scheme all round an Grafton has red decks not brown iirc.

E, immediately after replying, Although maybe the crane is an artefact my eyes are seeing, it might be Grafton at the stem

Further E, Rowan I think struck gold, definitely the Admiralty V class Destroyer HMS Valhalla.

To me this looks to match up with HMS Valhalla
afbeelding
Deck colour, bridge shape, narrow funnel right behind the bridge, open mounts, launches next to the funnel.

Valhalla also carries just 4 torps

Maybe my eyes are going to shit but now that funnel lines up perfectly, welp not a Japanese ships stern but a WWI British ship.

Still very grumpy Valhalla wasn’t switched places with Verdun as the timing of when both were added Verdun could’ve been added with a coffin decoration…

My initial thought was HMS Hawkins but yeah, it’s definitely Valhalla

I feel like this may be step 1 to get wire guided torpedoes in
similar to how cold waters does it:

I do wonder if they’ll add accurate sonar noises as technology improves.

That said, I have no clue how gaijin would go about asking all the navy having countries in game about what particular noises their military sonars make.

Speaking of sonar, I found this video on youtube about how to operate an ASDIC set.

5:30 mark you hear sonar pings & at 6:55 you hear the sonar return.

They will probably make it some what generic across nations, with an evolution from WWII all the way up to modern days

Even doing that will be tricky as we don’t even know the frequencies of many of these subs, on the performance note anything from the end of WW2 onwards is a relative and biased comparison rather than an objective one due to lack of information.

(For example the UK, France and US all credibly claim to have the best sonar systems currently fitted to an attack submarine and said the same about the last generation (and the UK and US claimed similarly for the generation before that too)).

I don’t know about accuracy, but I do hope they give us some distinct sonar “voices” like Cold Waters has:

It gives each vessel such a different character!

Royal navy guy says royal navy has arguably the best stuff.

Same guy also says the porpoise classes were the quietest in NATO and certainly quieter than soviet ones.

Tbh, he’d probably know about british subs certainly but unless there’s a book published by all the retired heads of nato countries called like “An in-depth comparison of NATO submarines from 1949-2025” then i’d be sceptical on relying on just that source alone.
