I have battle replay saved somewhere. I focused rafale in EFT, launched 6x amraams starting at 50km at him. He launched one MICA as I launched myast AMRAAM at some 20km.
Wanna guess who won in the end?
Funny considering mica is currently the Rafale’s longer range missile

Rafale and Su-30 do gain a notable advantage over the competition due to having HOBS. Now the R-77-1 isnt anywhere near as deadly as MICA EM in that regime, but R-73 is very good in a dogfight.
But Aim-9X wouldnt be added in a vacuum. ASRAAM, IRIS-T, Python 4/5, etc etc would all be added at the same time and the Aim-9X block 1 would actually be the weakest of the new Gen 5 IRs. The US would have pray they got the block 2 for something that might be able to compete

I mean rn aim 9x blk 2 is leagues better than camm in grb
Because CAMM is a buggy mess that is poorly modeled.
Also, whilst there isnt suffecient docs for increasing CAMM’s speed past M3. There is for getting ASRAAM up to 4.5+

Even the blk 2 currently in game would be the weakest of the bunch, going off of the performance of the others already in game.
How would MICA IR do among these? It has a much great range no?
It would have a higher theoretical range, but a worse Time to target that ASRAAM and weaker in WVR than the IRIS-T.
Also, if they force LOBL, then the MICA IR seeker only has a 60 degree FoV vs 90 fir the rest
