Su-30SM balancing, implementation of the AIM-9X

yeah, im pretty sure IRL they are just gatewidth and not dual mode

No irl the r73 use gating and its a dual band seeker
Magic 2 is multi element with gating and ive heard that it also has the 9m irccm with it too

In game they just use gating because its to much work modeling the dual band and multi element
Plus that would make dogfight even more unfair
Because some missile would literally be completely immune to flares in more cases than others
Same with IIR
Aim 9x irist and python 5 would be impossible to flare if they had IIR modeled

You’re confusing r-73 and r-74m/74m2.
Only r74m and m2 get the dual band seekerhead.
And then 74m2 on top of that is the one that gets the stronger, longer lasting booster motor.
R-74m is just r73 but with better seekerhead and more battery life.

its not for any missiles supposed to engage air targets

the SAMs all have gatewidth + seeker shutoff

R73m has the dual band seeker

Yeah, but r73m didn’t go into service.
R74m did which is basically the same thing but with more battery life

Imo r74m will be very good r73s have an impressive amount of range already tbe main issue with using it being the longer burn time and slower acceleration, but with a good seeker that is a minor issue, i sont know 9x with the drag reduction but im pretty sure r73 outranges aim9m and most other fox 2s bar the aam3

In game they pretty much all have similar range with some exceptions
Irl it is said that the r73 has a kinematic range of 30 km but effective range is probably equal to the max range of the 9m 16km

18 miles is right about 30km https://www.navair.navy.mil/product/AIM-9M-Sidewinder

so similar max ranges
