Strv 123A incoming to Swedish military!

The order is done already for CV-90s.
Can’t see why not they can’t get it on Leopards.

As long as there are acceptable sources for that then it really shouldn’t be an issue.

from what some people have said is that this concerncs the strv123a , this being the upgraded strv122 variants.

The leopard 2a8 for sweden might be a seperate thing they ordered which isnt specialy discussed yet and might be more renamed to strv124

We’re way past that lmao.

it’s not that they can’t it’s that they have chosen not to.

germany says no, means they arent allowed to do it easy as that.
Like i said italy tried making hard modifications like that as well and as a result got canned and werent allowed to do it. Resulting in italy switching to KF51s

they just cant if germany forbids it

the 2A8 ordered will be named strv123B and they have stated:

(Armén förstärks med 44 nya stridsvagnar - Försvarsmakten)
so the 122 are being upgraded to the same standard as the newly purchased 2A8.

Might be right as the Trophy is being markedet as a part of the tank.
Even the scale modelbox i have of the 2A8 have EuroTrophy decals in it

I think i’ve mixed up the 2A8 APS with the iron fist in that case.

Countries are free to replace/add sub-components to their Leopard 2s as they wish (hence why there isn’t a single unifed model, even 2A8s will differ when it comes to details, like BMS, thermals, computers, blah blah), what they aren’t allowed to do without Germany’s approval, is to perform structural changes/replace entire systems.

Italy’s 2A8 order was canned because they tried to ditch many of Germany’s solutions (like the cannon, powerpack, the entire Fire-Control System, and at some point even suggested just buying the hulls alone so that they could install the Centauro II turrets on them) and thinking that this will be their free ticket into the MGCS (lmao).

If Sweden wanted Iron Fist on the Leopard, they could have simply paid Germany/KMW to integrate it, but they haven’t so it’s more fair to say they simply don’t want it (esp since Trophy has already been integrated, so re-inventing the wheel just so they could “be different” would waste them a whole lot of time).

besides that if they wanted to integrate iron fist, they pretty much need to redevelop the whole system newly at that point it makes no sense to order 2a8s, they would need to develop their own version either way themself.
Ordering 2a8s specialy is cause sweden doesnt wanna develop mbts further themself / lack the expertise themself. Fact is sweden develops light tanks, hugely different to mbts.
Important parts of mbts is all done by germans for sweden

Oh god, i need that in WT

i mean i wouldnt say the eurothrophy is a sub- component.
I see it more like one of the main features, changing the eurothrophy would be more equal to structural changes / replacing entire systems

@Necronomica btw anything on advanced ammunition orders or you staying with your old ones as well?

I’m no expert on cannons, but they did advertise that it would get a new one which can program ammunition, whatever model that is. They haven’t stated outright that new ammunition will be bought, but they did mention that since it will now be the same tank which both Norway and Germany use, it will be easier to buy ammunition, so maybe the same darts Norway and Germany use will also be bought.

Now obvious info on new APFSDS (but honestly i think it’s a given as the new canon will make little sense without the ammunition to use the potential) but there was news on new HE (https://www.fmv.se/aktuellt--press/aktuella-handelser/ammunition-till-stridsvagn-122/)

Edit:
This pdf: (https://www.fmv.se/globalassets/dokument/om-fmv/fmv-arsredovisning-2023.pdf) is the 2023 yearly budget account from the Swedish defence material supplier. in it they mention several times “Under 2023 fördjupades det nordiska samarbetet genom bildande av Nordefco++ WG inom ammunitionsområdet. Detta arbete resulterade bland annat i ett samnordiskt avtal om gemensam anskaffning av ammunition.”
which tldr is basically a deeper collaboration with other Nordic countries for buying ammunition together to det better deals in bulk purchases (Industry Cooperation - Nordefco).

not completly honestly, the longer gun already provides quite the improvements and the a1 version of the cannon handles wear and tear better as well, it does have obvious benefits over the current gun even without the new round

about the swedish norwegian collaboration i guess its to be seen which rounds that does include

Well sure, it improves maintenance and longevity even without a more modern round, but it just feels wrong to stay on the old ammunition from the 90’s with that modern of a barrel x)

I just found this if it helps in any way at all with the case for 2A7V:
