Stridsfordon 9040 Skjutrigg
Summary
The Stridsfordon 9040 Skjutrigg is the firing test rig for the Strf 9040 which was made by Bofors in 1984 during the design phase of the Strf 90 project. To test the armaments that the envisioned Strf 90 would have, a 40 mm Bofors L/70 was fitted into a prototype turret which in turn was then mounted on an Ikv 91 chassis. It varies quite a bit from the current Strf 90’s in the tech tree other than just the hull as the gun is also unstabilised and the gunner has no thermal imager or laser rangefinder due to the lack of the Saab UTAAS sight during this point of development.
History
In 1977, the Swedish army was starting a process of rapid mechanisation of the entire army, and this new mechanised Swedish army would need a brand new IFV. This led to the idea of producing a family of vehicles that would fill the roles of multiple different vehicles to simplify training and logistics. One of the families of vehicles that was presented was a concept by Hägglunds & Söner which was given the name Stridsfordon 90 in 1983. In 1984 the concept was decided to form the future of the Swedish army’s lightly armoured vehicles which would be easily modifiable to fit the roles of an IFV and SPAA among others, although the calibre of the main gun was not decided, which lead to the creation of the Strf 9040 and Strf 9025 prototypes in 1986.

In 1984 however, Hägglunds started the development of a test rig for the chassis, and in parallel to the development of the chassis by Hägglunds, Bofors was tasked with developing a firing test rig for the turret and main armament, which in 1984 was believed to be a Bofors L/70 40 mm autocannon. As the chassis was in development at the same time and wasn’t ready to be fitted with a turret, Bofors had to find something else to fit their prototype turret to and found themselves with an Ikv 91 chassis on which they mounted the turret, with the turret giving satisfactory results in the testing that followed, with the 8th shot in an 8 shot burst hitting 10 m above the target at a distance of 1000 m. Due to the lack of a requirement for the Strf 90 to fire on the move in 1984, the firing test rig was however not fitted with a stabiliser until the Strf 9040A model.

Features
Hull
The hull of the Strf 9040 Skjutrigg is the regular Ikv 91 hull which is identical to the one we currently have in-game. It has quite good mobility with a top speed of 65 km/h and is fully amphibious. The protection of the vehicle is very light, with the thickest part of the armour being only 20 mm of RHA, which whilst will be penetrated by most things, may once in a while save you from an SPAAs autocannons. It has a crew of three with the driver in the hull and the gunner and commander sitting in the turret.
Armament
The turret of the Strf 9040 Skjutrigg is a prototype version of the Strf 9040 turret, with the most striking differences being the lack of a coaxial machine gun and the fact that the Saab UTAAS sight which sits above the gunners position in the production model Strf 9040s is not present, which means that this vehicle lacks both the laser rangefinder and thermal imager of the regular Strf 9040. The gun, whilst it is the same as the one on the production model Strf 9040, completely lacks any stabilisation as well. Other than that, it has access to the same ammunition consisting of the SLPPRJ m/90 APFSDS, SLSGR m/90 HE, and the KULSGR m/90 HE-VT.
In War Thunder
This vehicle would function like a bit of a mix between the Ikv 91, as that is the chassis of the vehicle and the Strf 9040B. It would however require a completely different playstyle to both as the gun is both unstabilised, has no laser rangefinder and the gunner lacks a thermal imager or even night vision. It would probably play like a flanking vehicle that is reliant on getting to the sides of enemies to even penetrate them unless they are a light vehicle or have a huge weak spot in their frontal armour. Due to this, and the lack of a stabiliser and laser rangefinder, the gameplay would mostly consist of flanking around enemies which are already pre-occupied with dealing with the rest of your team and being able to deal with any lightly armoured enemy flankers which you may encounter as you try to get around the main part of the enemy team.
