Strf 9040C vs 2S38

Talk with Sternlos, he dragged you onto this. And if anything, i wasn’t pointing at your specific activity, i was pointing at other’s comments and respective likes.

I feel like the puma survives better than any mbt Ive played lol.

To answer your other post, like OP pointed out I have 800+ games in it not because I love it, but I do grind hard I’ve finished all of russian ground and helis this week, spaded 16 lineups from 3.3 to 13.0 both ground and air in russia, 4 tanks 3 planes in each, and the best way to get that done is to spam out 10.3 lineup like some mental patient while listening to music.

The one thing imo that holds it back the most is the poor gun depression combined with the high profile and no hydro suspension for some reason even tho its based on the bmp3? This just makes you forced to expose way more of yourself taking shots, limits where you can play it etc.

Like I said ive been playing 11.0 germany and i’ve seen like maybe just a sliver of the top of an hstvl and they had depression to shoot me behind a hill. 17 degrees of depression besides the obvious benefits means a lot for survivability. 9040c doesnt even have great depression but its still 50% more than the 2s38.

Spoiler

To give an in game example when I play small normandy east spawn I like to do the south flank to the church overlooking both enemy spawns and outside of the town. First stop there is a fishbowl looking over C. With 5 degrees of depression 80% of that bowl is off limits and im forced to peak it from 1 area which if i want to take shots at people near the church I have to expose the front of my vehicle instead of just the turret. If there are people in the buildings south of the church wanting to get to my posisition because its a great spawn camp posisition for them I can not look over the hill facing them to contest and have to pop smoke and run or just sit there and wait.

If i can move to those buildings when its safe I cant stop and take shots north because depression wont allow it, i just have to fight to the church. Once I finally get to the church I get a great view of both spawns and reversable cover, but unlike russian mbts which dont have any problems here with the same depression, my gun is higher, so i cant even take shots at people on the road outside of town, or close to the church if pushing me.

You could say play a different path/posisition but these maps are small and mostly figured out. Going the beach flank has the same issues but worse, and town fighting is just yuck, and its a light tank you need to flank to do well, but a lot of the flank routes are depression blackholes for it.
sdfs

All of these spots I can’t depress or peak work fine in my 9 degree depression German vehicles. This is just one example pretty much all the good flanks that exist like this get screwed over or limited hard by bad depression.

ignore all that garbage, why does the 2s38 get ir tracking while none of the CVs have it despite having it irl?

Bug report it?

that’s been done multiple times, they just arent doing it

The CV 90s don’t have tracking IRL.
The optic is compatible, the fire control system isn’t.
Only the Lvkv 9040C was given a fire control system to utilize the optic’s capability of locking onto aircraft.
The CV 90s have a laser range finder and velocity cruise control.

all of them have it, literally.

i can say for sure HSTVL has an advantage on hilly terrain and being a better flanking but the versatility and ammount of ammo the 2S38 can carry its definitvely something that its worth a bit over 10.3 but not over 11.0, even i think 11.0 its a bit much for the 2S38

That would put it at the same BR as the Freccia.
Even if you disregard the Spike on account of their RNG nature, the Freccia dumpsters the 2S38 simply by being an actually mobile light tank.
Obnoxious as the 2S38 might be, it’s stats are about on par with comparable LT. I don’t know if the Strf should be 10.0 cause the M3A3 sits there and it’s rather pathetic, but the 2S38 doesn’t need to go up.
Ideally Gaijin should make it a SPAAG and limit it’s APFSDS loadout.

I’m separating tanks into vehicles of the same category. The Freccia, although labeled a “light tank,” is still a wheeled vehicle, not tracked. Meanwhile, the Spike missile remains situational reliant on RNG and open maps so I don’t consider it a major advantage to make a huge point.

I believe the 2S38 is more comparable to vehicles like the Begleitpanzer 57 in purpose, though not identical, but I’m focusing on comparisons to vehicles at or near its BR (e.g., STRF 9040).

The 2S38 excels as an aggressive flanker due to its rapid-fire cannon great firepower, and its HE-VT rounds add versatility. I’ve already explained my reasoning and won’t repeat myself further.

I play it in my 11.0/12.0/13.0 lineups for my light tanks or to spawn CAS because airstrike+scouting+drones is really cool and balanced and light tanks REALLY need them to be competitive /s

It does fine up there, only big difference is the amount of MBT LFP you can pen, pretty sure at 10.3 it cleaves through all LFP except for abrams. LWR keeps it alive (or at least gives you some counterplay) against the cancer CAS up there.

BR stuff like this gets placed at is what is the lowest BR that its acceptable, I could see it going to 10.7 honestly, but like I said the stats are just not great for it because it suffers doing anything but flanking, and because of the depression and mid mobility its hard to play it on those compared to other stuff. Default behavior for most players and when I first played it like a year+ ago was to just kinda hold W since map knowledge was almost 0 and the idea of playing maps like the scenario I posted above was alien, and take duels against MBTs and lose miserably so the kd is bad there.

If gaijin does balance based on player statistics here’s you answer why its 10.3.

Yes, i would much rather play 9040C than 2S38
