Compared to the LAV-AD the Stormer has 25% the number of Stinger missiles on rails, or 50% including reloads, no access to HEAT rockets, 43% of the 25mm ammo, less gun elevation (only 55°) and a less manoeuvrable chassis. So not only got much more ammo vs aircraft, it’s more potent against ground targets too.
But, I hear you say, to “balance” that, the Stormer has a tracking radar…
Well, so does the Gepard 1A2 at BR 9.7… Those have the arguably superior 35mm cannons, with better traverse rate, max elevation and 36% more ammo than the Stormer, and with double the penetration, much better against ground targets AND it has twice the Stingers on the rails (though with no reloads, half the ammo in total).
To make this worse, at 9.7 BR in a lineup with the FV 4030/3 and Rooikat 105, the best SPAA Britain gets is the 8.3 Chieftain Marksman/ZA-35. Meanwhile, EVERY other nation by 9.7 gets an AA with missiles. What gives?
Gaijin has never been kind to British AA, with gaping gaps in the tree (e.g. between 5.3 and 8.3, NOTHING), while at either 8.3 or 10.3 BR there are 3 options. Good luck trying to play an 8.0 lineup and be stuck with 5.3 SPAA. Just a little bit of attention and fair balance would be nice Gaijin.
It’s great they’re adding the RCM 784 Tracked Rapier, but will that help any of the AA gaps in the British tree? Not unless it’s 9.3 or 9.7… And more than likely, it will be 10.3 like everything else.
