Never was. being 0.3 BR lower than the other Tornados, it held a notable advantage in most air modes. Especially in Sim, where something like the GR1 was dodging Mig-29s and F-16s, the MFG was evading F4s.
In the last update, they overhauled ASM code and now ASMs and most other weapons work quite well vs naval targets now, in Sim we’ve always had naval targets to attack. (though I have heard the AS.34s dont seem to do a huge amount of damage currently)
It’s fair, but at least you have some of your own versions, like the Harriers.
The German TT has two versions of the SU22, two versions of the MiG29, two versions of the MiG 15, two versions of the Sabre, two versions of the MiG21, etc.
Their only two native aircraft, the Alpha Jet and the Tornado, only 1 version.
Yeah I see. I guess if they added the rest of the stuff that came with the ASSTA upgrades, Taurus, HARM it would make more sense. But I also would’ve liked a
“We know this aircraft cannot use these weapons. But we are adding them as an upgrade to the jet, as the other upgrades are not in the game yet. When they are added, the plane will be updated” or something along those lines. Instead we got all the bug reports shut down, and only “we have docs saying it used them” when in reality the times literally don’t match up.
As we have seen in the past, they deny adding armament because it couldn’t use them etc. Would be nice to have a strict set with little wiggle room, especially when it only seems to benefit a few nations.
Its not the first time they’ve added an upgrade to an existing aircraft that is technically a different version of the aircraft.
For example the Jaguar GR1A cannot use a TIALD pod. That was the GR1B upgrade. Rather than adding an entirely different variant we just got the mod. (though still hoping for the GR1Bs digiital RWR though)
I guess if there is no desire for a higher BR version, such as including Aim-9Li, adding a seocnd airframe for just the GPS bombs would have sucked.
btw. just because an IDS can in theory use HARM III (even an ASSTA 1) that doesn’t mean it’s useful because the IDS is missing the ECRs ELINT system to program rhe HARM
I (think) there was reports about it having the AIM9L1-1 or whatever that had the smokeless trail, but I’m not 100% sure. IDK if it would warrant a new plane. Maybe the addition of HMD/HMS as well?
I’d counter their balance decision with “WTF is the Tornado balanced against…?” Smokeless trail for 2 IR missiles would hardly be unbalanced, especially when armed on a flying semitruck
